As for the job, I don't think you should get one at a reception hall for booking events. **ducks** Hehe. That's so something I would do. As for situation one, could Lydia join you at the party? Then continue to party down with Lydia as you wish.
As for the job, I don't think Americorps in Chicago will be the best bet. Mainly because you won't have money. Plus, it strikes me as something rather stressful, at least I assume it would be, 'cause I like making mutual asses. Look and see what you can do for Grad school. Friends keep telling me just to buck up and go and live off of loans--it's not that bad, they say. I don't want to--the idea petrifies me--but apparently it works for a lot of people. You can still have random jobs while grad schooling--you don't have to grad schoolify yourself for full-time fun.
As for job hunting, I don't know much. For now I'd say keep an eye out for a good library job, but see what you can land otherwise.
So there's my 12 cents, Homegirl. (Inflation even affects advice, apparently.)
Oh, and how sure are you that you'd look like a "damn fool" if you missed said class? Friends you never see are more important than looking foolish, I think, but maybe it depends upon the extent of said foolishness...ism...osity. Yes.
Well I'm pretty resigned to the fact that I will be looking like a damn fool regardless of my attempts to avoid such. I think that couples alongside being the biggest chick in the class... It's okay I like shaking my jelly all over the place! LIBERATING
( ... )
You'll have to decide who you love more for the other. Sorry. Okay, not really--but who are you more likely to see again? Or, you know, see again sooner?
Then go for the AmeriCorps thing if you can afford it. It sounds like it's right up your proverbial alley. Will it be more/less/the same commutage?
I smell what you're cooking. And I wants to taste it. Behbeh.
Ok, considering I am in no way good at making decisions plus I am in my own intense internal debate right now, I don't make any promises to be of any help. Nonetheless, here's my choices:
I agree with thebreakofday, if Lydia can come to Booking Two, that'd be best for all parties. I think I'm biased here, but you only graduate once and a birthday comes but once a year, whereas hopefully Lydia could come 'round again sooner than that? I dunno for sure. But I vote Booking Two.
For the job, if you can afford it (and I mean ONLY if you can afford it without going into debt) go for the wanderlust. 9 months isn't so bad to wait for the rest of your life. And I think you might always regret not giving it a shot when you had not real obligations to tie you down.
Again, I may be wacky on all of these answers, but I did my best. Cookie! *extends hand*
Did you not read the term and agreement clause? You are not within cookie-giving distance, so while I can't promise you a thin mint, I will promise you a cookie next time I see your nicely turned ass.
I'm FEELING you on the wanderlust - though this AmeriCorps position would be in Chicago, but working with the Asian Human Services, which excites me. PLUS it would be as a media center assistant OR an ESL instructor, two things we love.
You know what? Read what I wrote to Sarah (tBofD) and tell me what to do.
OH and read what I wrote to Marcos about the promotion and respond in lieu of him because his being at work is putting a cramp in my information gaining style. Word.
I read the whole thing but have little wisdom to offer. It surely would be nifty, as Sarah suggests, to combine the Lydia-visit with the graduation party. Would the birthday party be on a different day than the graduation party, though, or just afterward the same day? Maybe you could do the birthday party and see those people that way? And it would still be close enough to graduation that your friend might not feel slighted on that

Oh God I want to just give in to the wanderlust and roam around the world! (By the way I'm just LOVING that people are actually responding to my questions. This technological journal world is awesome!)
The b-day party is right after the graduation party, so that's no use at all. But I like your collective thoughts!
I'm belly dancing! And I'm considering taking classes in Burlesque too, as they are offered at the same studio and I LOVE the teacher (and the idea of Burlesque, because I'm a classy slut like that) so that might be on the plate soon. I want to start taking ballroom badly, but I want to save that for when I can bring my own partner with me... so I'm hopeful that within the next year I can find someone to ballroom with me! YEAH DANCING! I'm so in love with it - it's the most fun, least like a workout-workout I've EVER done. I'm a fool for not starting sooner!
So, wander! This is a great time for it, in many ways; you don't have many of the things that could hold you back later, like a mortgage, kids...all that jazz.
Of course, one of my friends' mom and stepdad just recently sold their house and many of their possessions and moved to Africa to do service work. This, however, has been only after their kids are all out of the house.
You may notice that I'm not following my own advice on this subject. (Yet. We'll see.)
See what happens when you post to your journal? People enjoy and respond! And I'm very glad you befriended me; thanks. :)
Woo, belly dancing! Good for you! It does sound like fun--something I might want to try sometime myself, if I get brave enough. ;) Yeah dancing, indeed! Tango is super-fun too, and I'd like to try ballroom, swing, and salsa sometime too.
Well I actually have this plan formulating for the wander. (By the way - I figured out that when the weather is nice, my lust for exotic lands increases.) I'm very, very interested in the AmeriCorps position (it's the residual desire to do the PeaceCorps within me, I swear it!) and I think that if I put in another year around here doing that sort of work it will help me decide if I want to jettison off again, or if I'm actually ready to start a grown-up life.
TRUST me when I say that I fully intend on retiring into a life abroad. If I'm fit and well enough, volunteer type work, if I'm lazy and flabby, on cruises! Huzzah impending retirement!
Little woman. If you want to have a shove in the "let's wander the world" direction, look no further. As I have recently schleped all my shit up to an apartment which I love, I want to stay in Chicago for a year (maybe more) before schleping elsewhere, but I'm all up in it. Word.
Bah! Don't tempt me. If I hadn't moved into an apartment three months ago, I think I'd be packing my bags right now. I think that in my head this would lead to future lustful wandering. If I were to get into the habit of a year here, a year there, and be able to afford it, I so would. For me, if I were to get a library job and start grad school that would be the beginning of the end for me - I'd get into it and want to establish myself. If I'm wandering from situation to situation it just helps me feel...free.
Haha I so can lose! But I like your attitude! Do you ever write in this journal? Your xanga? ANYWHERE?! I'd love to stalk your life from afar Megan!

- the graduation/birthday party (but it really is hard to say whether you should just go with Lydia)
- the AmeriCorps for sure! I bet it'd look so good on a resume since it involves so many cool things that you could use in the library later.
And I responded to your Marcos comment! He'll be back from work around 2, so then he can tell you what he thinks ;)
