Oh for cry Pete.

Okay so I'm about as cornfuzzled as I've ever been (within the last... month) and I'm putting it to the people to help me out ( Read more... )

I read the whole thing but have little wisdom to offer. It surely would be nifty, as Sarah suggests, to combine the Lydia-visit with the graduation party. Would the birthday party be on a different day than the graduation party, though, or just afterward the same day? Maybe you could do the birthday party and see those people that way? And it would still be close enough to graduation that your friend might not feel slighted on that.

Sr. Marilyn at Augie once told me about an acquaintance of hers who moved to Ireland and lived out of a hostel for a few years. She signed on at a temp agency and worked until she had enough time to travel, then traveled until she ran out of money and came back and worked again. Personally, I'm not free enough to do that, and maybe it woudn't be the solution for you either, but it shows that such things can be done.

I don't think working at a library has to be settling. It doesn't have to be a lifetime commitment; you decide that.

So what kind of dancing are you doing? (I'm dancing myself, for the first time since first-grade ballet classes. I now tango! And no one could be more surprised at that than me. ;) )

Hey! Friend me back sometime, lady!

It's good to hear from you; I miss you, and I'm sorry I've not been better about keeping in touch. Whatever you do with these situations, take care of yourself, okay?

Oh God I want to just give in to the wanderlust and roam around the world! (By the way I'm just LOVING that people are actually responding to my questions. This technological journal world is awesome!)

The b-day party is right after the graduation party, so that's no use at all. But I like your collective thoughts!

I'm belly dancing! And I'm considering taking classes in Burlesque too, as they are offered at the same studio and I LOVE the teacher (and the idea of Burlesque, because I'm a classy slut like that) so that might be on the plate soon. I want to start taking ballroom badly, but I want to save that for when I can bring my own partner with me... so I'm hopeful that within the next year I can find someone to ballroom with me! YEAH DANCING! I'm so in love with it - it's the most fun, least like a workout-workout I've EVER done. I'm a fool for not starting sooner!

So, wander! This is a great time for it, in many ways; you don't have many of the things that could hold you back later, like a mortgage, kids...all that jazz.

Of course, one of my friends' mom and stepdad just recently sold their house and many of their possessions and moved to Africa to do service work. This, however, has been only after their kids are all out of the house.

You may notice that I'm not following my own advice on this subject. (Yet. We'll see.)

See what happens when you post to your journal? People enjoy and respond! And I'm very glad you befriended me; thanks. :)

Woo, belly dancing! Good for you! It does sound like fun--something I might want to try sometime myself, if I get brave enough. ;) Yeah dancing, indeed! Tango is super-fun too, and I'd like to try ballroom, swing, and salsa sometime too.

Why, indeed, did we not dance sooner?...

Well I actually have this plan formulating for the wander. (By the way - I figured out that when the weather is nice, my lust for exotic lands increases.) I'm very, very interested in the AmeriCorps position (it's the residual desire to do the PeaceCorps within me, I swear it!) and I think that if I put in another year around here doing that sort of work it will help me decide if I want to jettison off again, or if I'm actually ready to start a grown-up life.

TRUST me when I say that I fully intend on retiring into a life abroad. If I'm fit and well enough, volunteer type work, if I'm lazy and flabby, on cruises! Huzzah impending retirement!

Little woman. If you want to have a shove in the "let's wander the world" direction, look no further. As I have recently schleped all my shit up to an apartment which I love, I want to stay in Chicago for a year (maybe more) before schleping elsewhere, but I'm all up in it. Word.

You know, I may just take you up on that one of these days...

So, keep me posted of your plans! In both the short and long term, please.

With hugs,

me
