There's a guy lounging on a lawn chair, set up on a street corner, a crate set in front of him like a table. He's got a deck of cards that he's shuffling, and he's calling out every so often to passer-bys who look like they might be game ( Read more... )

Leyin sits down across from him. He's a be-sunglassed fellow in trendy clothes. "What's the game?"

Jacob grins and turns his full attention on Leyin. "Anything you want, my friend! Blackjack, draw, stud, any card game you can think of."

"Huh. You can pick, really. I know lots of different games even if I'm terrible at almost all of them."

"Blackjack it is, then." Jacob gives the cards a last shuffle before dealing. "So what brings you to my street, hmm?"

Yes, his street -- at least for today.

Calisto is here, too.

Yes, she's everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Frightening.

She takes a seat without saying a word. Her gaze is focused on Jacob, a tiny smile on her pouty lips.

Jacob gives her his most charming grin, dealing out a game of poker (seven-card draw) without taking his eyes off her.

"Hello, gorgeous."

It's really very unfair for Calisto to play games when she can read minds. Doesn't stop her.

She leans over and slides her fingers over her hand of cards, looking up at him and picking them up. Calisto likes feeling him stare at her. She pretends to study her cards very carefully.

"Hello, Jacob," she says, not looking up.

To be completely fair, it's not like it was an honest game to begin with. Jacob has no problem cheating and knows a lot of ways to do so.

An eyebrow goes up at the use of his name, but he doesn't comment. However she knows, there'd be no reason to use it except to get a reaction. So he won't give her one.

Instead, he pretends to be far more focused on the game than he really is, glancing quickly at his hand before looking back at her. "Bet?"

Regulus really shouldn't be out, after Brando warned him not to go out alone so fresh from the rift. No matter, he wasn't going that far from the hotel. And then, he sees a rather tall, thin man sitting in front of a crate.

Cocking his head to the side, Regulus thought about sitting down but wondered if he was a hustler.

"Hi," Regulus said shyly. He really could keep walking, but really, it didn't hurt to make new friends.

Jacob looks up, turning his full attention on the boy. The shy greeting is amusing, but he pulls the smirk back into a friendly smile and a wave.

"Hi yourself. Want to play a game?"

Somewhat single-minded? Only sometimes. Now just happens to be one of those times.

"I don't know..." Regulus asked suspiciously. "You're not a hustler or anything are you?"

"Me? God, no." Jacob laughs and shrugs. "Just bored and looking for something to do. Maybe get to know some people."

With his best innocent look (which is, it must be said, a pretty damn good act), he adds, "You don't even have to play for money, if you don't want."
