The past few months here have been interesting, to say the very least. The most surprising revelation of all was what the Rift had done to her, bestowed her with an ability that felt like a curse, but could just as easily be a gift to so many others. Jane stabs at her stack of pancakes, using the side of her fork to section off a wedge of the breakfast food. After she chews and swallows, she gives Maura a glance.

"Maura, it's Chicago in the winter. I'm pretty sure even in alternate universes someone has to make money off of hacking down trees."

"It has to be a suitable height," she declares, dipping a piece of her pancake into the small container of syrup she has on the side. "Nothing too large, though adequately full." Tree shopping tended to be something that could take hours for Maura. "We'll need trimmings for the tree: garland, lights. Oh, and a way to easily transport it."

Jane sighs, rolling her eyes a bit. There's an attempt to hide it, for Maura's sake, but really - it's not her idea of fun standing around in the snow and cold watching as she tries to pick out the perfect specimen of whatever Latin word is for Pine tree.

"Do we need to call in the Calvary to carry it up to the apartment, too?"

"It won't be that big." She pauses, after swallowing another bite of pancake. "Besides, I don't think they have a Calvary here, Jane. And if they did, I certainly wouldn't want to impose by soliciting their services for such a mundane task."

She finishes off her coffee, takes the remaining bites of her pancake, and stands cheerfully.

"We should leave before it begins snowing more heavily."
