[ closed to Jane -- backdated to the weekend after Thanksgiving ] Baby It's Cold Outside

The past few months here have been interesting, to say the very least. The most surprising revelation of all was what the Rift had done to her, bestowed her with an ability that felt like a curse, but could just as easily be a gift to so many others. There's no real way to reconcile it, no way to rid herself of it, and it's not something she takes lightly. For a few weeks there, she'd even been afraid to do autopsies, until she had determined that only skin-to-skin contact with the dead brought them back to life. It's strange at times, looking at a corpse on her table and knowing she has the ability to bring them back from the dead. It goes against everything she believes, though, and though it's not always an easy decision, she doesn't doubt that it's the right one. The dead have to stay dead.

Despite everything, she's met some wonderful people here. And Jane is with her. The holidays will certainly be...stranger this year, but Maura has no doubt they'll be enjoyable, she'll make sure of it. Whether or not Jane is agreeable to all of Maura's festive ideas is another matter entirely.

It's the weekend after Thanksgiving, and that means it's time to begin Christmas decorating. While they're each enjoying a cup of coffee with their pancakes, Maura ponders, "I wonder if they have Christmas trees here. I think we should take advantage of the day off, and start decorating."
