Elena really likes Buffy.

She also thinks it's important to try and have some normalcy amidst the regularly scheduled angst and drama that is her life, and there's been plenty of both lately. What matters is getting through the day, appreciating what you have, and doing it all over again tomorrow.

Currently, she's helping set up the tables in the cafeteria if there are any left to set up, and she'll be focusing on the good.

She'll be focusing on what she's thankful for this year... and it has been a whole year now. Elena's finally been able to let go of the past to build a life of her own in Chicago. She has learned to accept--and for Elena Gilbert, that is a huge thing, but she can't credit herself for it entirely. She'd have never been able to do so without the people she has genuinely come to love, whether it's the people she's met on campus or the house she lives in or those in the Tower.

Jeremy is here. Caroline is here. All things considered, she's blessed.

If there's anything that Buffy's learned in the course of being a Slayer, a little normalcy is always important. And while the Thanksgiving Nazi hasn't reared her ugly head yet -- that's possibly because nothing has gone wrong, either.

She makes her way over to where Elena is standing, looking over the tables before giving her a grin. "Everything looks great. Thanks for the help."

Elena would also want things to go smoothly for similar reasons, and she's also very hungry. She hasn't checked the food out, because she likes feeling useful and wants to help as much as she can while she's there.

She grins back at Buffy, stepping back and folding her arms across her chest. "It was nothing. Thanks for coming up with the idea in the first place. People are really starting to crowd in."

Buffy is actually rather pleased about that. She thought that it might wind up just being friends, but with all the people -- both those that responded and those that didn't -- they actually managed to collect a pretty decent group. It isn't too often that something like this gets this kind of response.

"They are. I'm actually really excited to see how this will turn out. And all the food looks great."

Sam misses Dean.

Sam will always miss Dean, but life doesn't stop because the Rift has taken someone you love, and he's had to learn to get by. It's been rough for him in some ways, and fairly easy for him in others, for reasons similar to Buffy. He's just another hunter--though that could change once he speaks to Castiel, but Sam's burying his head in the sand for a while when it comes to that.

He's always wanted normal.

He's always wanted something as simple as holidays with your family without anything etting in the way of that, but that wasn't ever really in the cards for him. Maybe this time it could be different.

Sam promised Buffy he'd do the heavy lifting, and he is true to his word. He'll have helped set up and then, because he doesn't excel at the social butterfly thing, he'll go and find himself something to drink... and will be accidentally bumping into someone in the process when distracted by looking at all the decorations.

He's tall and coordinates awkwardly.

Buffy knows Sam misses Dean, because Sam misses Dean the way Buffy misses Dawn. It feels strange, having Thanksgiving without her younger-but-taller sister being right at her side, and that's what keeps it from being completely perfect, but Xander and Giles are both here, and that's good enough for now.

She also thinks that the fact that Sam coordinates awkwardly is rather adorable. Just saying.

This time, he happens to be bumping into his girlfriend, who only moves away just enough to steady him, before looking up with a grin.

"Having fun?"

Sam is quick enough to lift his drink in time so that he does not spill it all over said girlfriend--she looks beautiful, and it would be a shame if she had to change because of his social cues or lack thereof. The drink still high in the air, he leans down to kiss her fully on the lips in greeting.

"Now I am," he says, smiling against her lips before he draws back. "What's the verdict on the place so far?

She grins into the kiss, one arm snaking around his waist, and she keeps close before looking over the rest of the room. "I think ... I think it looks great. I'm really glad we got such a great turnout."

It's Thanksgiving. There should always be a lot of people around on Thanksgiving -- it's what the holiday's for.

Before the Thanksgiving meal, Harry Potter is with Hermione Granger in one of the cafeteria's in the Tower. He's looking to make an actual dish for the meal, and he'd said that they would do it the old fashioned, muggle way. Harry had been determined to do just that. However, now that he's looking at all the ingredients and at the recipe in turn for mashed potatoes, he is wondering why on Earth he ever said such a thing ( ... )

harry, why so adorable. isaywe_party November 24 2011, 16:01:03 UTC
"Have you tried them yet?"

Buffy has to ask, given the look on his face. The look on hers is mixed between curiosity and amusement, but she's not entirely sure what his is about. She's assuming the potatoes are the culprit, but she could be wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

Harry shakes his head at the question, glancing over at her.

"I...think I've seen too many of them. They actually make me sick looking at them now." He shakes his head, staring with that same look on his face as he adjusts his glasses. "I thought you simply mashed potatoes and that was all there was to it. I brought a hammer along, but it turns out it's much more complicated than that."

"Mashed potatoes are a complicated and tricky thing," she nods in agreement. "But they're necessary for most Thanksgiving meals, so we thank you for your effort."

She may be teasing, just a little, but the affection is genuine. And she's sure that the mashed potatoes are more than okay.

Flack never says no to Thanksgiving. Ever. Ever.

This, however, is the first year he's actually done cooking for one. This is the instance where a Rift power like his comes in handy, and no Thanksgiving dinner is complete without a green bean casserole. He added his contribution to the buffet line of foods brought by the other guests, and turns to survey the rest of the room. He isn't sure where to mingle first, but he'll figure it out.

Martha steps up to Flack, noticing that he's set something on the buffet line. However, she does not notice what it is that he's set there. It's something to question.

She smiles as she steps up to him.

"I had no idea you could cook," she comments with a small smile that widens a bit, and she has a glass of her alcoholic cider in hand. "So what is it that you made?"

"Greenbean casserole," he says as he turns back to her with a smile. "Nothing fancy but I wanted to contribute something. And the cooking is more of a recent thing."

He's always wanted to learn, but Chicago is the first place where he actually had the time. That plus his Rift ability has added to more than a few experiments over the course of the past couple months.

"Hey, you've got one up on me. I've no idea how to make green bean casserole, and your contribution is appreciated, believe me," Martha says with a small smile as she lifts her drink up in his direction.

She glances down at the item on the buffet line as her smile widens. "I'm something of a terrible cook, took me ages to learn how to make passable pancakes. It's why I made the apple cider, minimal cooking involved."

Shawn is also one to never say no to Thanksgiving.

It still doesn't seem completely right. His dad isn't here, and neither is Gus, and both of those things are crucial elements to any Thanksgiving, but that's starting to hurt a little less. He has his Chicago family, and while they may not have been family long, it meant enough to Shawn.

Regardless, Shawn is dressed as a pilgrim, because he can, and it goes with the theme (yes, he actually read Buffy's journal entry), and has contributed his famous pineapple upside down cake to the buffet line.

That might be the one you want to skip, Chicago. Just so you know.

Shawn will hear a low whistle from behind.

It's Phoebe, who is impressed he's dressed himself up. Thanksgiving doesn't seem completely right to her yet either, people missing and she's keenly aware of it, but she isn't one to linger in sadness. She'll sidle up next to Shawn, giving him a once over. "Hiya, cutie."

"Phoebe!" And she's immediately greeted with the trademark Shawn Spencer smile and a happy Thanksgiving hug. There will be hugs all around for anyone who wants one, but Phoebe doesn't even have to ask. "Happy Thanksgiving!"

Shawn Spencer hugs are the best hugs! Phoebe beams up at him and tackles him into a trademark Phoebe Donovan hug of her own, arms winding affectionately around his middle. "Happy Thanksgiving to you! I'm totally ready for the day. Even brought my Thanksgiving pants. Come at me, bros!"
