As far as Buffy is concerned, this has probably been the easiest six months that she's had in a long time.
It isn't so much that she's lost the responsibility. There are still times when she worries about the Slayers that she left behind, and what's waiting for her and Willow in the future, but at the end of the day, she knows that she's not getting out of Chicago. There's a level of acceptance there that she has to face, and for the first time in a long time, she's happy. She has a job she loves, she's back to patrolling just to patrol. She's not on the supernatural's most wanted list. She's just a girl who happens to hunt monsters. It's something she's never had, and it allows her to have a life. That, in the end, is what makes this better.
There are things she's left behind, things she misses, things she still wants to protect, but for right now, she's okay with where she is. She's useful as a Slayer and she's useful as Buffy, and in the end, it's the kind of balance she's always wanted to find.
Yes, okay, occasionally she turns into an elephant, but there's downsides to everything.
That's part of the reason why she decides to hold Thanksgiving. She really did mean what she wrote in the journal, and that the invitation is in fact open to everyone. She's arranged the tables in the cafeteria in a bit more of a friendlier circle, and set them up so that people can mix and mingle as they choose. She winds up making a couple turkeys just in case, and the room is covered in decorations and candles, and once it's all set to her liking, she stands in the middle and just smiles.
"Yeah," she nods. "This is good."
Now she just has to wait for people to show.
[Mix, mingle and threadjack to your heart's content. Buffy will try and get around to everyone, but consider this the openest of open posts.]
