tale as old as time

Nick Andros is spending his morning juggling apples off one of the many apple carts that seem to have shown up around Chicago. This particular cart is on a street near the Kashtta. He's not very good at it, more than one apple is at his feet from being dropped and he can't seem to get a rhythm going if he tries more than three, but he'd been trying ( Read more... )

Shawn isn't sure how he feels about all of the shenanigans that have been going on this week. Yes, the fairy tales and everything else are pretty cool, but Shawn can't find his wiener mobile. He's fairly certain the Rift has turned it into something, but he hasn't figured out what yet.

Which means Shawn has been touching everything.

Somewhere in his mind, he believes that he has a psychic connection with his car. Don't judge him.

He's in Grant Park when he finds the lamp, sitting on a bench and trying to think about where to go next. He swears all he does is blink, but the next thing he knows, there's a small lamp sitting on the edge of the fountain.

Like a genie's lamp.

Yeah, there's no power in Chicago that could keep Shawn from picking up that lamp.

And as soon as Shawn picks it up, it starts shaking and pouring out smoke, which begins to coalesce into the form of a wizard.

"Greetings, wanderer!" Remus announces, in what would be a great theatrical manner if he didn't sound ready to laugh underneath. "Your next three wishes are my command. Whatever your heart's desire, I will give it to you."

He's mostly properly formed by the time he's finished his announcement, and he shrugs, dropping the theatricality to add, "Well, with some restrictions."

This is probably the greatest day of Shawn's life.

Just so you know.

"Awesome," he says with a grin. He's about ready to jump into the wishes when he remembers that there are always rules with wishing. "Wait. What are the restrictions?"

Well, if he has to be stuck as a genie, at least he seems to be making a lot of people's days.

"Wishes that change something aren't permanent, they'll wear off in a couple of hours at most. I can't kill anybody, I can't bring anybody back from the dead, I can't make anybody fall in or out of love with someone else, I can't bring anyone to this world or send anyone away from it, and some things are too large a scale for me to manage, so you can't wish for world peace." He shrugs. "Other than that, if there's any restrictions, I still haven't stumbled onto them."

"All of these things are completely reasonable restrictions."

He considers this quietly for a moment, wanting to make the right wishes while he had it. Changing things wouldn't be permanent, and he couldn't do things like wish for Gus. As much as he may have wanted to wish for Gus.

"I may need to take some time with this. Is this a limited time offer?"

He shakes his head. "As long as you keep a hold on the lamp, it isn't. As soon as somebody else gets their hands on it, it's their wishes. If you find it again you get another chance, but it's been sending me all over the place and I couldn't begin to tell you where to look."

"Right." He looks down at the lamp, before cuddling it close to his chest. "Got it. I'll hold onto it."

He pauses for a moment, before looking back at him. "Do you want to go back in?"
