[Open] It's always darkest before the dawn.

Cassie Riddle was having a rather good day. Well as good as she could be, considering everything that's happened lately. She was just enjoying a walk in the park in the autumn sunshine when suddenly, the Rift decided it would be a very good idea to give her deer antlers. And then… they got a little itchy, and she had the instinct to go and rub them ( Read more... )

Flack's seen a lot of weird things in the course of his time in Chicago. Chicago is pretty much the epicenter for weird. Between the Rifts and the people it brings there, strange things happen all the time, and while he's seen a lot of it, he's still getting used to it.

One thing he's never seen before, is a guy running away from a crowd of women wanting his attention. In fact, he wouldn't have seen that back home either. So for the moment, he's just going to stand there and stare as Capa is running towards him, a bit stunned as to what to do.

Capa isn't aware of Flack's staring. Most people are staring at the lone man being chased by a horde of women. If he had the time to care, he'd be mortified at all this attention being drawn to him.

Dodging through the crowds, he's managed to get a good way away from the women as he stumbles into Flack. He almost falls over, completely exhausted and very much scared of being made out with again within an inch of his life.

Grabbing onto his arm, he shakes him slightly, "Please, you gotta hide me. They've gone mad!" he pants, getting ready to run again, "They won't leave me alone!"

The man grabbing onto him is enough to snap him out of it, before glancing around and nodding towards the door of a nearby building. "Come on."

He leads him through the door, pushing the man in ahead of him, closing the door behind him and flicking the deadbolt. He isn't sure what kind of building they're in, but it'll do for right now, so long as the door stays closed.

"You okay?"

Capa almost falls into the building and hunches over. He's quiet for a while, trying to catch his breath again. He waves a hand in dismissal and coughs, he's never had to run so hard in a long, long time. His body's not used to it.

"Fine," he gasps. "I just-- Christ,"

Capa looks up and towards the man. He can hear women slapping their hands on the door, calling out declarations of longing and love.

"This city never ceases to amaze," he says, "Thanks,"

"The Rift did this?" Flack says, glancing out through the window. "Sure you didn't drink something or get hit by something?"

A beat.

"Sure it's not your Rift power?"

"Considering everything else it seems to cause," he pants, gesturing toward the door, "Yes I believe so,"

Capa shakes his head. "No, all I did was pick up a note pad a woman dropped and then they were just all suddenly stopping and crowding round," He wipes at his forehead and suddenly notes a dark shade of red on his hand. "... am I covered in lipstick?"

"Very sure," he says, deadly serious, "I'm a fire elemental, power-wise,"

He chuckles. "Yeah. You're covered in a lot of lipstick. But that comes out, I promise."

He shifts to peer out the window again, before tipping his head to the side.

"How long do you think this is gonna last?"

Capa groans, "Damn it," he mutters and begins to frantically wipe at his face. Most people would enjoy being smothered in kisses, but not him. His personal space was very much invaded and he is not pleased about that.

He shakes his head at his question, "No idea," he says, "Perhaps after a while of not seeing me, the Rift's hold might wear off,"

Hopefully.

"But yeah, thanks for the help there," he says, still wiping at his face.

"No problem," he nods. "At least it wasn't a monster out to kill you?"

Trying to look on the brightside here. Capa's more than welcome to follow him or not.

Capa pauses to consider this for a moment and sighs, a small smile at his lips. "Yeah, I guess so. People get more of their fair share of that in this city" he said and shakes his head.

Hopefully managing to get the lipstick marks off his face, he wipes his hand on his jeans before offering it to Flack to shake. "I'm Robert,"

"Unfortunately. But that's the price of living in Chicago."

"Don Flack," he replies, reaching over and shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you."

"Yes, that's true," Damn you, Chicago. "I wouldn't have minded, I don't know. Being showered in books or something ridiculous like that. I'm pretty sure someone else would have appreciated all that female-attention,"

Oh, well.

"You too," he says with a nod, "Are you local to Chicago?" he asks.

"In my experience, the Rift doesn't usually do what you would appreciate. It does what'll drive you crazy."

And that is the truth.

"I've been here over a year now?" Flack says with a shrug. "I fell through the Rift August of last year."
