what I do on Saturday

Seated on one of the couches in the Kashtta's lounge is Dave, who is currently reading up on some magical history.

The book on the table in front of him is really, really large, and extremely old.

Seated on the nearby couch is Gilderoy, who just can't seem to figure out how the remote works. He's familiar with television, of course, but as far as he' ( Read more... )

Hermione would be thrilled to know Dave is reading such a book. It's probably one she's read several times herself, but she is currently standing in the doorway, staring at the peacock, utterly bewildered.

She'll come up with a question, really.

For now she'll just stare.

Hermione!

If there's one person who can fix this, it's Hermione.

Gilderoy, forgetting the whole "peacocks can't really fly" thing, tries to do so over to Hermione.

So, Hermione.

How's it feel, getting hit in the face by a fabulous bird?

SCREAMS!

Hermione is trying to back away but she isn't fast enough.

How was she to know the darned thing would fly at her? She gets a peacock to the face, smack dab in the cheek.

She falls to the floor at the impact.

"Ugh!" she says, trying to bat it away. The nerve! "Would you sit still?"

A LITTLE HELP HERE, DAVE.

It's hard to ignore screaming. Dave's head snaps up at the noise and he very nearly facepalms when he sees what's happening.

Really?

Without moving from his seat, he snaps his fingers and the peacock freezes in place, head tilted. It blinks.

(Something smells minty.)

Dave looks back to his book and turns a page. "It'll fade in about a minute. Gives him some time to cool his feathers."

Gilderoy, for the record, doesn't like any of this. And he will cool nothing. NOTHING.

So here's Randall, waiting at whatever undisclosed location in Chicago that this Kenzie girl told him to meet him at. He's a little apprehensive, but she seems nice enough. Even if she does want to shoot an apple off his head. He needs to make new friends anyway. The narration isn't so sure he needs to be friends with a crazy teenager, but that is really beside the point.

He's here, and he's waiting, and he's in a good mood so he's not shirtless. Sorry Kenzie.

And then there is a Kenzie. Like magic.

She has an extra bow and arrow set with her just in case Randall decides to learn a thing or two.

She also has an apple.

"Hey! Randall-dude. That's you, right?"

He turns and grins when he sees her. "That is me, which must mean that you're Kenzie."

His eyes take in the bow and arrow sets, and the apple. She really means business. Not that he doubted it, but now he's certain.

"I really hope I don't regret this."

Kenzie always means business, mister.

"It's okay," she says, grinning that grin of hers that says 'I am SO about to mess with you.'

Xander knows that look well.

"There's a hospital nearby, so you really don't need to worry."

Veronica wanders into the Kashtta, looking for some answers and to suss this world out. She's lost in her thoughts as she commits what she sees to memory until Gilderoy Lockhart sneezes. She stops by the couch and frowns a little. "Bless you."

The peacock thanks you, Veronica.

Wait.

Gilderoy blinks his beady new eyes, cocks his head at the woman who is suddenly way too tall, and slowly realizes that his arms are... wings.

And he feels so, so sore.

It's possible that Veronica's never witnessed a shift before. It wasn't very pretty. But look at the end result! Beautiful!

Veronica's eyebrow is cocked. She's incredibly confused. Pointing at the peacock, she says slowly, "You were a human. I swear you were a human."

She has to admit, even though she'll hate herself for even thinking it later, he does make quite a lovely peacock. (Probably helps that he can't talk.)

The peacock nods its iridescent little head.

You are absolutely correct, Veronica.

Except then he starts to flail and make loud peacock noises because OH MY GOD HE IS A BIRD WHAT. He flaps over to her, wings all aflutter. Help?
