On July 4th, there is another wanderer community event for the first time since March when a bomber nearly killed everyone that attended but instead killed two people who chose to sacrifice themselves so the rest could live. These two people were friends of many including Martha Jones, but it is important to move forward and not let grief stop them ( Read more... )

Peter isn't sure why he let Neal talk him into coming. It sounded like a good idea at the time, getting out, doing something different. Now that he's actually here, though, he just feels out of place -- and painfully aware of El not being here to celebrate with, as much as he's trying really hard not to dwell on that.

He ends up gravitating towards the Ferris Wheel for a lack of other ideas, hovering towards the end of the line with his -- unfortunately just about empty now -- coffee, looking up thoughtfully. It's been a long time since he's been on one of these, and from down here it certainly looks like it'd have a good view.

The question here, it seems, is whether to go for the ride, or find more coffee. Peter's answer to this is apparently to hang out on the end of the line while trying to spot somewhere that looks good for coffee.

0Here Peter, have a Neal. Not only do you get a Neal, but you get one who has a nearly full cup of coffee in his hand. Granted, the coffee was not intended for you but he'll probably share.

"Having fun yet," he questions with a grin and a sip of his coffee.

He is eying your coffee, Neal. There is not enough caffeine in his system right now, so he's going to be eying yours.

"Yeah, tons," he answers flatly, though it's not a tone of annoyance so much as resignation. "You look like you're enjoying yourself."

He notices him eyeing the coffee and raises it up, moving the cup back and forth for a moment before offering it out to Peter. See? He knows how to share!

"C'mon," he urges. "It's not that bad is it?" Shrugging, he looks around. "I've been looking at the art," he admits with a laugh. "Very nice. I keep meaning to hit up the museums here..." And now he's smiling at you Peter, smiling wide and hopeful.

Peter looks slightly more pleased when he's had a sip of the offered coffee. "I like my holidays quieter," he answers neutrally as he hands it back, glancing around at the crowds.

He can't say he's surprised to hear Neal mention the museums. If anything, he's a bit surprised it didn't come up sooner. "Any in particular?"

He's about two seconds away from a warning, mostly out of habit -- he's trying to give Neal the benefit of the doubt, but old habits die hard, and probably harder here than if he'd gotten the chance to get used to Neal being a free man in New York. It doesn't slip out though -- not yet, anyway -- and he gives Neal a smile instead in return.

"Not surprising in the least," he comments, taking a sip of the coffee and offering it back to Peter. "It could be worse," he 9offers. "At least the fireworks should be good."

He was hoping they would get there in their own time but it never seemed to work out like that, so he's going to drop hints instead. Besides, with the whole need to get used to Chicago and then the flood, he thinks it's understandable that they never quite got around to it.

"I was hoping for the Art Institute to start with but if you've got any better ideas." he gestures for Peter to put forth any commentary he might have.

He's kind of surprised the warning didn't come up. Pleased too but mostly surprised. He'd be lying if he said the first thing that crossed his mind wasn't how all the good places could be broken into but to his credit, all they are is plans. Lots of plans.

Hey, he's not doing anything and that has to count for something, right?

"They should," Peter agrees, taking the coffee and enjoying a sip before he continues. "I haven't watched a fireworks show in years."

He shakes his head. "No, that sounds like a good place to start." The warning will probably come up eventually, probably when he sees Neal looking at something for a little too long, but he's going to try not to give it ahead of time. It remains to be seen if he manages it, but he is trying.

"Well," he says with a grin. "Now's as good a time as any to get back into the habit." He looks up towards the sky for a moment. "Besides, I haven't done it in years either. Especially not with anyone else." Yes, he is happy to have an excuse to watch fireworks and even more than that, he's happy to have an excuse to do it with Peter.

Neal is a bit of a sap like that, he's not ashamed to admit it either.

Neal grins fiercely. "Great," he says trying to at least show a little restrain but failing miserably. "It'll be wonderful Peter. They've got some marvellous exhibits coming through." Yes, he's been keeping up with he schedules of the museums, is anyone really surprised?

He'll expect the warning to come up eventually, quite possibly because he'll do something to warrant said warning. He's just going to remind himself until then that he cannot try and case the place while Peter isn't paying attention.
