Who is wearing the other cuff that will keep you chained to Sam's side all day? It could be your character!
The handcuffs are magically Rift-altered, the narration must warn. Nearly nothing will set them free.
Not to mention, Sam's Rift ability is finally kicking into gear, and his hand keeps stretching to an impossible length.

"C'mon, Sam! Can't be that hard to pick a lock," she almost whines. She isn't trying to be rude, but this is frustrating, and when frustrated she tends to act like a child. It's not that she minds being attached to big, tall, and handsome so much as being attached to anyone.

"It should've worked already, and it won't. I don't know if it's the Rift or what but... nothing works."
Reply
"Oh trust me, it's the Rift. Has to be on April Fools Day. You shoulda seen Christmas and Valentine's Day." Her eyes are on the lock as he works on it. She would offer tips, but her rebellion stages never had much to do with breaking and entering.

And of course, a bad day just gets worse, because Helen is only out and about for something like five minutes before she accidentally drops her pen and it slips into a sewer drain.
Really... She mouthes, angrily, staring at the ground as if gravity itself is to blame.
Reply
Curses. Whatever. They're bad and the Rift never spares prisoners.
When he finds Helen, he detects the anger immediately. John approaches her with mild concern, arms folded across his chest. "Helen?"
Reply
She's never appreciated being able to vocalize until today.
Reply
He plucks a pen from out of his breast pocket to hand over to her, in case she actually does want to write things. "You want to head over to the Crowbar with me? My brother often knows how to fix a lot of the shit the Rift likes sending people's ways. I'm not saying it might work, but it's... something."
John places a hand on her shoulder comfortingly.

But never, never had the Rift deigned to mess with her. Until today.
Lena cannot speak. Or rather, if she does speak, she can only reply to others using song lyrics. They may or may not be related to the topic at hand or the person she's speaking to.
Some of these song lyrics are downright embarrassing.
If you stumble on Lena today, prepare to be attacked with cheesy pop songs and hits from the 80s.

Charlie is sitting in Grant Park, just minding his own business when Lena happens to wander by. Yes, he just saw her yesterday. Yes, he probably could have done without seeing her again, but really. Who minds seeing someone two days in a row? It's what makes life fun.
He gives her a smile when she comes by, and a wave of his hand. "Hey there, darlin'."
Reply
She opens her mouth at his greeting, and instead of the requisite hello in return, she speaks rather clearly--
"The moment I wake up, before I put on my make-up, I say a little prayer for you."
And then Lena's eyes widen. Like she didn't mean to say that. BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T.

He's only going to tease her a little. He promises.
"While combin' your hair now, and wonderin' what dress to wear now?"

Unfortunately for Bela, her little rift prank today is that she's being cursed to talk backwards. Fortunately for the rest of the world, she hasn't figured this out yet. Should make for some interesting shenanigans.
When she happens to stumble on Josef, however, she can't resist opening her mouth. There's just something about seeing a demon of any origin sparkle that just makes for a good time. She smirks as she makes her way over before speaking.
"Yad hguor a dah ev'uoy ekil kool uoy." There's a beat, as she realizes that wasn't what she intened to say. That wasn't what she intended to say at all. "Tahw?"
Reply
Not only does he have to fucking sparkle, he is fucking sparkling in the presence of esteemed employees. That's going to work wonders for his reputation, really. Josef sighs, utterly frustrated with this latest ploy of the Rift, noting she is about to tease him a bit from that smirk alone.
And then she spouts inane drivel.
Josef lifts a brow high up. "...What was that?" he asks, and he steps over to her. Upon closer inspection, she might notice that he isn't just sparkling. The sparkles themselves have taken the shape of diamonds.
Josef glitters like a bright jewel, alright.
Reply
"Yad hguor a dah uoy ekil mees uoy dias I."
She pauses for a moment, and then there's a small frustrated noise. If she ever finds out that this Rift was run by a person and not just a fluke in time and space? She is going to shoot them.

Of course Chicago decides to one up her. The prank on Parker today is to make her act in a way she isn't used to. Parker is being very touchy-feely today. She's hugging her friends, patting strange children on the head, and all the normal touching that everyone but her does. She can't help it, and for some reason she doesn't mind it all that much. She's even cheerful about it.
It's after the fact that she's weirded out and when she hopes it will go away, but she knows what day it is and she has a feeling it won't go away until the day is over.
So all day she will be around Chicago touching and feeling and being very unlike herself. It's possible that if she does see someone she knows she will run up to them and hug them fiercely, and if it's someone she doesn't she might think they need a hug anyway.
Reply
Really. If people got more hugs the world would be a better place.
As far as he knows, the rift hasn't pranked him yet. He has been driving around, distributing hot dogs to the people who are pranked. He's also come to the conclusion that no matter how hard Anya may try, Shawn will never actually sell hot dogs for a living.
It's why he's opening a private detective agency.
He's giving a hot dog, to a little old woman who's hair has been dyed neon pink for the day when he spots Parker hopping and skipping her way down the street, hugging everyone she meets. Shawn? Happens to think that's awesome.
Then he sees Parker.
Parker sees him.
He's bracing himself for impact.
Reply
Because when Parker sees Shawn, whether she wants to or not, she beams and charges his way. She is acting much like she might were she on those darn happy pills again. Hugs are always best when someone is ready for them and wanting to return them.
She may even call his name as she runs to him. In fact, Chicago is now slowing her down and she's running at him with open arms in slow-motion. It's beautiful really.
Reply
If anything, Chicago has turned him into an optimist. Who knew?
It is beautiful. And quite amazing. And all the bracing in the world couldn't have prepared Shawn for that tackle hug. As soon as Parker hit him, they both tumble to the ground, but Shawn is grinning.
"Hey, Parker."
