It is probably better not to ask why she does, but it's at least less questionable than her normal selection of meat. Which, thanks to being kicked out of her place and all, has kind of been depleted. Like her strength. And will. It's difficult to go on.
However, newspapers are exactly what she needs! As after all, you can't pluck a chicken on the counter. That's just unsanitary.
She drops the chicken on top of some of the papers and starts humming merrily as she starts plucking it. Oh, how living on a commune as a child teaches you such things.

She's not sure how long forever's been, as she's kind of been on a bender. To be honest, though, when is she not on some sort of bender?
"I was thinking about possibly using it as some sort of ritual sacrifice, but then I decided that I don't really want to deal with any gods who think that a chicken is a decent thing to give up. I mean, it's just a measly chicken. There are much bigger things I could gut on an altar that you think would get their attention."
