(OOC: Backdated to the 3rd, because I am TERRIBLE.)

Meggie is eight years old today. She hasn't done anything to celebrate her birthday since her mother was around, though - since she turned four - because none of the foster families bothered. And so she wakes up expecting nothing of the day, because that's what's normal. The Tower does see fit to ( Read more... )

It's not like Dan to show up in a bar.

(The holidays are the hardest, his doctor had said. His doctor, whose heart nearly broke to see that all the progress she made with him had been lost when he showed up back in Chicago, at her office's doorstep, shaking and sobbing and broken near-beyond repair ( ... )

THE EMO-EST THREAD TO EVER EMO. OR SOMETHING. themaelstrom77 January 7 2011, 19:57:15 UTC
Miles has spent the past four months in and out of bars, really. There's not much else for him to do. Richard is here, but he's not the same Richard who Miles new, and he's with someone else. But Miles hasn't seen him in a while, and he's not sure if he's really over this perpetually unrequited whatever the fuck you want to call it.

He's been alone, though he's made a few tentative friends. And he's been wallowing because that's what Miles does.

Being able to hear dead people all the time doesn't help much either.

Miles is just nursing a beer. He's sick of getting drunk to get drunk. He's drinking because it's something to do other than sit in his room at the Gauche.

He's staring down the neck of who knows what number bottle - he doesn't bother to keep track because there isn't a point - and trying to to listen to the voice of some girl who was raped and killed in the backroom of the bar, so he's a little distracted and doesn't notice Dan standing there just yet.

Dan reaches out, tentatively, to touch Miles's shoulder, then pulls back. He shouldn't. He should just go now, before Miles turns around and sees him and all the memories Dan worked so hard to bury and replace come flooding back-

But he can't leave Miles like this. He's not sure they were ever really friends, but something in his chest (the still too-real memory of everything they went through together, on the freighter and on the island and after that, in another life-Dan's seen it all) keeps his feet rooted in place, Miles's name dangling off the tip of his tongue.

He knows Miles thinks he's dead, but the dead don't age, do they?, he thinks, and Dan certainly looks older than he did when Miles last saw him. The years spent in this world have not been kind.

"Miles?"

Jim's heading towards Bones' office because, well. Does he ever actually have a reason? Beyond being bored, that is, which is an excuse Bones scoffs at quite frequently. Today, however, he does have a very loosy-goosy reason for visiting, and that's the bottle of sweet tea he's holding in his left hand. He figures that Bones will be too touched by the gesture to snap at him too much about "having work" and "checking medical files" and "damnit, Jim, I cannot discuss STDs with a patient while you're sitting there playing Solitaire!" (Which was a bit unfair, in Jim's opinion. But he really hadn't helped himself by pointing out "there" and "Solitaire" rhymed ( ... )

Martha wanders in on Meggie in the kitchen, quite accidentally, but she's always happy to run into the girl around the Tower. In this case, Martha may be more exasperated than anything else. Brownie mix is a bit difficult to clean after all.

She kneels down beside her.

"I see you were trying to make brownies," she says with a bit of a smile. "Once you've finished eating, you can help me clean this all up, alright? The Tiara is beautiful. What's the special occasion?"
