Lavendar had been intending to go visit the Hotel's lobby, because she's met a receptionist who makes her tea. Very good tea, really, and she was hoping to swipe a cup from him. However, she stops upon seeing the struggling man and a vaguely familiar dog.

"Do you want help, Mister?" It's only when she moves closer that something feels very familiar about the man, too. He has a warm feeling, something she recognizes on a personal level. It's strange, but she can't quite place it.

"You look a little lost 'n' all..." Bright smile.

"I'm not lost," he replies cheerfully. "Just....Slightly off-course."

Laughing just a bit, he shakes his head. "Well all right, I may be a tad bit off but don't tell anyone, all right? I like to think I know exactly where I'm going on most days."

At this, the dog gives a slight hmph, and pads over to sit next to Lavendar, nuzzling her hand lightly.

"Sorrysorry," Toby says quickly, sending the dog a disapproving look. "He's a sweet dog, I assure you, just a bit pushy on occasion."

He doesn't bring up the strange feeling that she brings about, a feeling of familiarity, of sameness.

"I won't, promise." Lavendar giggles and looks down as the dog nuzzles her hand. Tilting her head to one side she crouches down to give the dog a pet. He feels familiar, too, this dog. It's only when she catches a glimpse of the collar, though, that she gapes and hugs him.

"Grover!" There's a wide, wiiiide smile on her face. She hugs him loosely around the neck and looks up at Toby. "Where were you goin' to? I can help you."

With that, she'll disentangle herself from the dog (because really, it wasn't that strange) she moves to help Toby carry some of his suitcases.

Grover is more than happy to take all the petting he can get and once she's started, he moved to place his head in her lap, tail wagging with enthusiasm. However, it's when she notices the collar that he'll give an excited bark and trot back to Toby who's busy giving the two of them a rather confused, although amused look.

"We were going uhm..." He blinks, looking to Grover a moment. "Where were we going to, Grover? Our rooms? Or was it to visit?"

Pausing a moment, he looks to the dog, then his bags. "I think rooms would be the best idea, no need to clutter up other people's spaces with our things."

Getting to his feet, he'll offer her an apologetic smile. "Well, I'm trying to figure out where our rooms might be located but I'm not too terribly sure, so I suppose if you're willing to do some wandering, you're more than welcome to help."

Penny notices the dog first, of course, and being the animal-lover that she is, she simply can't just walk on by without stopping to pet it. "Hello, puppy," she coos as she ruffles the fur on his head.

She catches sight of the collar and reads the name inscribed upon it, laughing a little in surprise when she recognizes it immediately. Beaming, she looks up at his owner. "Hello there, I'm Penny, and I believe I met your dog the other day."

On any other day, in other world, that sentence would sound absolutely silly.

The dog is more than happy to nuzzle and give a wag of his tail when he receives attention. In fact, he's quick to get to his feet and even make a move to lick her cheek. It's pretty clear that he's either a very friendly dog or he's met her before.

It's when his collar is noticed yet again that he'll give an excited bark and plop down next to his owner again, who, up until this point, has been a little oblivious to their interactions.

"Have you?" He smiles and looks to his pet, scratching him behind the ear. "He wasn't trouble was he? I surely hope he wasn't. He's not terrible for the most part, I promise you! We're simply new here and it's taking us a bit of time to get used to the place."

He pauses, grins and shakes his head. "I'm sorry, I'm starting to babble a little." Extending a hand, he smiles. "I'm Toby and it's a pleasure to meet you, Penny."

Penny laughs as Grover nuzzles her and tries licks her cheek. The last time she experienced this much love from an animal was from Donovan’s Great Dane the last time she visited him and he wasn’t nearly as cuddly, but she enjoyed it all the same.

“Oh he was no trouble at all!” She shakes her head. “Quite the contrary, I found him absolutely delightful. Although I was a little puzzled by that little, uh, trick of his.”

She stands up and accepts his hand. “Well, Toby, it’s a pleasure to meet you and a pleasure to see Grover again.” She reaches down to ruffle the dog’s fur again and nods at the bags. “I suppose you’ll be staying awhile judging by those. Here to fight the good fight or whatever it is we’re doing here?”

He laughs,, nodding. "Imagine how I felt, waking up one morning and tripping over a pair of legs I full well knew hadn't been there the night before. Most certainly one of the more awkward situations I've found myself in."

Looking down at his bags, he shrugs. "Well, yes and no. I initially hadn't quite wanted to stay but airports are getting a bit dangerous and I'd rather not chance it right now. Besides, it's been far too long since I've traveled and a City like Chicago is a magnificent place, even with the current dangers."

It's then that something strikes him. "Are you new here as well? I only ask because you seemed a bit unsure of what we're all doing and really, if I'm prying too much please just tell me. I have a habit of asking too many questions to people I've only just met."
