A man enters a bar and it's clear he knows exactly what he's looking for.

He'll spot her soon enough, nursing a drink at the counter just as she'd told him, and strides over, taking up the seat next to her.

“So,” he begins and he pulls out a cigarette and lights up. “Heard that we've got some news. Wanna fill me in?”

Kate doesn't even have to look at him. At this point, she recognizes the sound of him sitting, the very sound of him lighting up a cigarette.

"We're staying here."

Her face is entirely expressionless as she reaches over, taking a long drink from the slender, dark bottle before she sets it down, again.

"For a while."

It's never a good idea for an assassin to stay anywhere for long. At least, they knew they were going to get paid well for it and at least, it wasn't a game of being in the city alone. It's easier when you have a partner to watch your back.

=Don't mind if he just stares at her a moment, he's just hoping that this was one big fucking joke and then she'd tell him what they really wanted.

But it was clear she wasn't joking and he didn't like that one bit.

So once she sets the drink down, one hand will reach out and take a swig from it because news like that requires alcohol. Lots of alcohol.

“Why? What do they want here? We did our job and we did it pretty fucking well, so why re they keeping us here?”

"Apparently, the windy city's currently the center of the universe. They never give many details, but the good news is after last night our pay's gone up. And we got a bonus."

Not that she does it for the money. She does it, because there's nothing better for her to do. Kate's good at killing. It helps her to travel and keeps her away from her family most of the time.

She rolls her eyes and takes the beer back from him for a quick drink. "Apparently, they expected us to fail."

Failure, usually, means death. Just not the right death.

The drink goes back into his hand.
