Never asked for a helping hand, no one would understand --

If you had asked James Potter a week ago where Chicago was, he would have given you a very odd look, shrugged, and gone on with his life. Though he doesn't know it, he is about to become intimately acquainted with Chicago -- specifically, with Grant Park. He's in a wooded area which, at first glance, doesn't seem too different from the wooded ( Read more... )

"James?"

There's the fiancée in question, gaping at him in disbelief from the sidewalk. It's been months since she saw him, and she had almost given up hope that he might show up one day, and now here he is - thinner than she remembers, and unusually scruffy, but that's her James, and that's his wand, and she would know him anywhere.

"James!"

Here, Mr. Potter. Have a Lily-cling.

He is not about to object! In fact, he's clinging back, a little bewilderedly, but he looks down and sees that yes, this is his Lily; yes, she looks the same, even smells the same, and it's just nice to hold her for a minute or two.

"Lily?" He finally says after a minute, still inspecting her to make sure no important bits have gone and disappeared or anything. "Lils, is it really you?"

"It's me." Lily tilts her face up to his, beaming at him (and maybe getting a little teary). "Bloody Hell, I missed you...James..." She returns his inspection, running her hands over his face, neck and shoulders. "I can't believe you're really here."

"As long as you're sure you're not Moody in disguise," he says with a little grin, and bends to give her a small kiss. "Because if you were, I couldn't do that." James pauses for a minute and glances over her again, then the surrounding area.

"I missed you too, Lils. Didn't stop looking for you or Pads," he says, with a bit of a sheepish look. "That is, until I got here. ....Where is here?"

Jennifer Rose is out for a walk in Grant Park, which means that she only has the bare minimum of drawing supplies with her, just a sketch pad and some pencils in her purse. She gets more odd looks when she's lss obviously an art student, but that's hardly going to stop her from wearing her frilly dresses.

When she sees James, she considers leaving him be. He could be a conducting student or something, after all, but the look on his face makes her reconsider. She stops comfortably out of grabbing range. "Um, excuse me? Are you okay?"

"I'll be more okay once I've figured out what's happened to London," he says wryly, and relaxes a little, lowering his wand. "Because I was in a park, y'see, but it definitely wasn't sunny. Looked like it was about to rain, really, and there weren't as many people about. So what's happened?" Because even in the wizarding world, you don't suddenly shift continents without warning.

"Oh dear." Her face falls a little bit. "I think you've come through a Rift. You're in Chicago now. And the year is 2009." She adds the last part because of James's clothing. She's quite good with current fashion, and wizard robes aren't really among them. Except among cosplayers, of course, but his look a little more lived in.

"I'm afraid they haven't worked out ways to reverse them yet."

"Chicago?" He blinks a little and frowns. "What the hell? I know I didn't apparate here." He catches himself and glances at Jennifer Rose, a little guiltily.

"I, uh -- sorry. I must look like a nutter." He sticks his wand back in his pocket, so he knows it's close at hand just in case. "I'm James Potter."
