I float as the clouds on air do, I enjoy being a girl!

While Becky is not happy with what's happened to her darling friend, she's coming to see Luke in a pretty chipper mood. That'll probably be good for him in the long run, anyway. She has home-baked brownies, some fun movies, and stuff for facials and manicures. He's a guy, sure, but he likes touch, and giving him a facial (if he'll let her) might ( Read more... )

Shakespeare had planned on working on one of his romance novels in the diner while he ate. However, he recognizes Mat from the Conrad, even though he's pretty sure he scared him off last time. Still, he can't let this one go again.

He welcomes himself to the table, sitting down, putting his bag down.

"I don't believe I ever managed to get your name," he says, giving Mat a smug grin. "And honestly, that was more of a pity than I could imagine."

Mat looks up, startled, and simultaneously turns red and laughs nervously. "Oh, um... Mat? My name's Mat. Matthew, really, but not even my parents called me that except when I was in trouble so I don't--" He cuts himself off. Right. Nervous rambling. Must've had that talent levelled up while talking to Fred. "Mat," he repeats, to indicate that he's not going to ramble any more.

"Um... a-and I don't... think you told me, um... your name?" He may have an epic crush on Fred. And he may have a significant crush on Aaron. But DAMN this man is hot, whoever he is.

"William Shakespeare," he says, holding out a hand. The rambling really is endearing. "And it really is a pleasure indeed, running into you again, Mat." The name rolls across his tongue easily. It does fit the boy indeed.

"So, I need your help." He gives Mat a very serious look. "I've never been here before, and I don't know even half of the menu."

William Shakespeare. The William Shakespeare. It's not as if fictional people haven't shown up here, so why the hell not Shakespeare?

It's a little crazy, though, as you can tell by Mat's gobsmacked expression.

"U-uh, w-well, it's a... a diner?" Mat offers eventually. "Um, a-and it has... diner... food?"

...so suave. Yeah. He's totally cool.

Luke doesn't spend all his time in his room anymore. It started that way. The first couple of weeks he didn't leave the room unless he had to.

He wanders into the lobby shortly after Becky enters. His immediate reaction is to tense up. Luke practically jumps. It's almost like seeing a ghost even though she's not dead. She never died. He knows that. It's just been so long. Lifetimes.

It feels like he never knows how to act around anyone anymore, but especially people he hasn't seen in so long who are from the happiest time in his life as short lived as it may have been.

But it is good to see her, again. It's more of a relief than he imagined it being when she first suggested coming.

He manages an awkward, nervous smile. "...hi."

Becky sees him and... well, he should feel better about this whole thing the moment she does, because her expression transforms from curious and expectant to just... utterly glad to see someone she loves very dearly. The bags get put down, and she wraps her arms around him, hugging him tightly.

"Oh, sweetheart, it is so good to see you," she murmurs in his ear. "I missed you so fucking much."

Relief hits him even stronger at the look on her face. The smile tentatively widens across his face as though he can't believe she's here at last and that he's alive to see it.

Luke slips his arms around her. It's familiar. It's been so long, but it's familiar. The way she feels in his arms. For a moment, it feels almost safe. Pay no mind if he starts to cling, Becky.

He's missed his family. Everything's changed. And he's going to die.

"Missed you too, darlin," he says when his emotions let him speak, again. "Thank you." For coming. For being here now. For not getting scared away.

"Like I wasn't going to drop everything when I heard," she scolds gently, teasingly. She kisses his cheek. "I've brought brownies, movies, and stuff to do facials and manicures. Guys can have spa days, too, so there."

She squeezes his hand and kisses his cheek again. "Damn, I missed you," she tells him, her voice a little more serious this time. She did miss him, terribly, and to come back because of this...

She wishes she could fix it.

River is at the park. She is not entirely sure why, other than the river is to be avoided, but there is a sneaking suspicion that fresh air will help clear her mind. It won't, never has and probably never will, but it's cliche and familiar (definitely something Simon would say) and it does help, somewhat, to get away from her letter.

Hiding fifteen different messages in one cover is a difficult task.

So, there she is, squinting up at the sun (only one, which is hard to get used to, and only one moon, only one Earth) and conveniently stepping over Tay as she walks in zigs and zags across the grass in the hotel slippers she found.

"It's more stable cubed," she says, slowing down for a step once she's crossed, because that makes so much sense, and then she's going again with a hand up to shield her eyes.

Tay's brain grinds to a halt. She turns slowly to stare at River with an expression of utter bewilderment on her face.

"Huh?"

Yes, Tay can join the ranks of such illustrious orators as Mal Reynolds and Xander Harris, with such a brilliant response as 'huh'. The critics will never stop talking about that retort.

The sarcasm, it is strong with the narration tonight.

Truly, she is a visionary too advanced and genius for her time. River knows of this plight well. They can bond.

"Evenly displaced," still looking at the sun, someone should probably tell her to quit that before she goes blind or something, "a tripod." It takes her a second, but eventually River turns to squint down at Tay through all the spots in her vision.

"It's more stable."

Hey, at least it's not all Chinese?

Tay is just going to sit here for a moment, stare at this chick, and try to process that.

Eventually she just gives up.

"Yeah, uh, anyone ever told you that you make no fucking sense?" she asks.
