On threat of death (actually, just hunting down), there is one William Shakespeare at the speed dating event. He doesn't really see how different this is from just finding some girl in a pub, but Martha is being VERY SERIOUS about it, so he will play along. And besides, he really shouldn't argue with chances for him to meet pretty girls. That would just be silly.

So he's sitting with a non-alcoholic beverage (even if he is rather sure alcohol might make this process that much smoother) and a very large smirk on his face. His ego. You can already see it.

Sakura slips into the seat across from Shakespeare just as the whistle blows. She was running just a tad late, and then had to grab snacks and a drink. Yes, had to.

Being a friendly person, she grins at Shakespeare when she recognizes him. "Oh, hi! I remember you from the coffee shop! How's that poetry going?" Also, if that smirk doesn't vanish soon, this will go nowhere fast.

"It is still what it is, although perhaps more suited to the modern tongue," Shakespeare says, giving her a smile. She is a pretty girl, but not the kind that would let him dote on her, he is sure. And he needs someone to dote on.

Still. He's going to give this his best shot. For Martha.

"It was Sakura, right?" The name wraps a little awkwardly around his tongue, as he tries to remember it.

She nods. "Yes, and I'm afraid I don't remember the name you'd prefer to go by." She should. They've talked twice, but if it isn't the name of a composer or a musical piece, Sakura will have troubl remembering it. "Or is it William after all?"

Sakura wouldn't object to being admired, it's just very hard for her to find someone that she likes more than music. Most men don't want to be considered second best to a violin.

Aniki is also in attendance, strictly because this is a good chance to get basic information on broad sources in a short amount of time.

She's mercenary like that.

The whole thing seems rather silly to her. Five minutes to ply for someone's favor, while not entirely unreasonable, is still pretty ridiculous. If nothing else, it looks to be an entertaining evening.

Since Sakura is pretty much straight, meeting the men makes her nervous. What if they're interested? Or interesting. It's scary!

Meeting the women, however, is just the chance to be social, and Sakura loves being social. It's a distant second to playing music, but it's still second.

"Hi! Nice to meet you. I'm Sakura, and I'm a violinist." She offers her hand to shake.

Aniki shakes Sakura's hand roughly, as she's wont to do. Handshakes for her have always been a test of strength as much as anything else. It's a hard habit to break.

"Aniki. Swordswoman."

Sakura's got strength in odd places, but the muscles that go into a handshake are not among them for the most part. Now her left hand that does the fingering? That would be different.

"Swordswoman? Does that mean you're a wanderer?" Based on the handshake, Aniki isn't an angel or demon, thus old enough to be resisting a career change or something.

It started as an joke. A tease. As such things are wont to do, it escalated into a match of 'I will if you will', double-dares and triple challenges until neither one of them could reasonably say no without looking silly.

Not that they didn't look silly in the first place.

Double-dog dare, Rachel? Really?

Well, here Adrian is, bemused and amused, ready for a new experience.

Mac slides into the seat and doesn't really pay attention to who happens to be across from her when she does so.

"Hi, you can call me Mac. I'm a former lieutenant in the mili- Oh fuck, it's you."

Well, this isn't awkward at all. Dammit. She knew she shouldn't have decided to come out here today. She's not that interested in having a relationship.

For a long beat all Adrian can think is, 'Well, fuck.'

"Ah. Yeah. It's me." Yeah, no, totally not awkward. "So. Former?"

Mac's stare is very, very unamused.

"Yeah. Former. Did that not come up with you were yelling at me about having no idea what I'm talking about?"

There wasn't much room for love in her life back in Gotham, and there isn't much room for it now. She's leery of dating as it is. The last man Rachel dated, her boss Carl Finch (yes she dated her boss) ended up in a body bag. He was then dumped in a river somewhere for standing his ground along with her in their fight against Gotham's underworld.

It's a good reason to be leery, the narration believes.

Still, Rachel is amused and believes Martha's idea can't hurt anyone's cause. She arrives right on time - Rachel Dawes is a stickler for punctuality. She'll help wherever she can and maybe meet new people or bump into those she has already met. Not that she's thinking of anyone in particular. :|

It really can't hurt. And so there Rachel is, ready for pretty much anything at this point.

Gray slides into the seat in front of Rachel. He's here because... Well, why not? He doesn't have time for normal dating and while he barely has time for a casual relationship, it might be good for him to meet someone, see if there are any sparks.

He offers a hand across the table and a cheerful. "Gray Raines, local trauma surgeon. That's two questions out of the way. Hi. Nice to meet you in this.. Most awkward of meeting places."

"And you're time-efficient too, now that's impressive." She does hate people who waste time.

Gray Raines, have a confident and smiling Rachel who was usually never found outside of a courtroom or her small office.

And some often wonder why she dated co-workers.

"Rachel Dawes, self-confessed idealist and lawyer. An anomaly, I'm aware. Can't tell you how many lawyer jokes I've heard. New material is needed, truly." She leans forward to shake his hand. Though human contact has been limited since her arrival, it gets easier every day for her to reach out to others.

"It's nice to meet you, Gray. I promise I'll try to make this as painless as possible."

"Can't really afford not to talk fast when you do what I do, which I hear is weird for a Georgian. And, look, there's another one. We're on a roll."

He lets go of her hand and leans back, relaxing a bit. "Lawyer. That's impressive. I do know a lot of lawyer jokes, but I promise, I'll refrain from tellin' 'em. And trust me, hon. I'm not worried about this being painful for me as I'm worried about it being painful for you. I have been told that I'm, well..." He waves a hand a bit. "Slightly three degrees of cool, if you know what I'm sayin'."

Winny does not want to be here. She didn't MEAN to be here. She just sort of ended up in the general vicinity and then everyone was sitting down and now she's at a table and has no idea what to do.

She doesn't want to be here. Besides, Dan's not either, that she can see--

Er. Wait. What?

Topher came out for this because, well, he's been helping with the renovations where he can and he'd like to have a chance to talk to more of the people around the Conrad. Juggling that with his banking job has kept him from hanging out and talking.

And it figures that he's managed to sit down across from someone who looks totally baffled by being there. Oh well, Topher's really good at being awkward. "Um, hi. I'm Topher Yule, and I'm gay, but I like making friends."

"Oh! Well, that's perfectly all right." In fact, Winny is relieved. And also bad at hiding it. "I'm Winny! Winny Carpenter."

She holds out a hand.

Topher is perfectly happy to shake hands. He's already pretty sure she's an angel, but with all the people in the area, he's not completely sure which scents go with which people.

"Oh, did you come put just to meet people then, Winny? I kind of did too, though I wouldn't mind meeting some for y'know, dating purposes."
