Speed-Dating [Party Thread]

Jul 27, 2009 12:05

[[OOC: Wanted to get this post up since family might arrive tonight. If under-18-year-olds attend, Martha will set up a separate section for them exclusively. Treat this like a party thread! Post in your character, and then the assumption will be that everyone who attends (in either the over 18 group or under) will have talked to your character at a table for 5 minutes. If you would like to assume that your character was near Grant Park at the time, and Martha roped them into it... that's okay, too! You can, also, comment your character in three times (before, during, after) if you'd really like/feel that it is necessary to get the whole story across!]]

Grant park is bustling with activity. There are two sets of small tables set up in square patterns across the grass. Each table has a couple of papers that list good questions to ask at a speed dating event in case people get stumped with what to say to one another. Each table is, also, outfitted with a vase of flowers and a red tablecloth.

As people enter or get anywhere remotely near this area of Grant Park, Martha Jones is dragging them into the party. There's one long table in between the 18-and-over and 18-and under sections with punch and cookies to separate the two. People are encouraged to grab a drink and a bite to eat before sitting at an open spot at a table in whichever section they should be sitting at.

"Alright everyone," Martha says once the event is ready to begin. It's 10 minutes past 6pm. "You'll have five minutes. I'll be keeping track. When I blow this lovely whistle here, I'd like those of you on the left-side of the table (my left) to move right and those of you on the right to move left. Got it? Be sure to use the questions. It's not separated girl-boy, because that would be silly. If you're not interested in someone of the same sex or opposite sex when you get to the table with them, let them know and make a new friend, yeah? O-kay, that seems to be everything! Have fun! If you need anything, wave a lot. I'll keep an eye out."

A red whistle hangs around her neck. Martha brings the stopwatch up and presses start on the timer. "Begin!"
