Noticin' the days hurrying by; when you're in love, my how they fly

Adrian is in a clean, quiet, out-of-the-way little music store and luthier. It's well-lit and and rigidly tidy, every surface polished, instruments carefully displayed, tidily organized racks of music arranged according to genre and alphabetized as well. The Muse who owns the place emerges from the back and eyeballs Adrian with suspicion. She ( Read more... )

Sakura is also visiting Heartstrings today. She needs a second violin for auditions since the fiberglass one has been getting frowny faces. Nevermind that she's still better than nearly everyone else, it's beginning to be an issue. Her usual luthier doesn't currently have anything in that clicks for her, so he recommended that she try this place.

Sakura opens the door to the sound of beautiful guitar music, so she slips inside and just basks. When the song ends, she'll do things like say hello and explore the shop.

It's Recuerdos de la Alhambra, a personal challenge and a workout for his hand. He goes slower than he would like, but the piece is familiar and he doesn't make as many mistakes as he thought he would.

The luthier leans on her counter, eyes closed, ignoring the bell on the door until he's finished. "God, that sound. That... What do you want? Any particular problems that need addressing?"

Adrian runs his fingers over the strings. "Just take care of her. Make her feel beautiful."

The woman holds her hands out and cradles his guitar more delicately than she would a child. (She doesn't LIKE children.) "You got it. A Hauser."

Now that the beautiful playing has (unfortunately) stopped, Sakura moves towards the counter slowly. Not slowly as in reluctantly, but slowly as in she's trying to see everything on her way there. She's not quite in kid-in-a-candy-store mode, but she's close.

She likes the way the Luthier handles the instrument, and she's rather hoping that the store isn't about to close for the day. She knows that look. That's the look of a woman in love with an instrument.

It's also why she's still reluctant to actually say anything.

"Oh--another thing."

The woman looks up at him, a slight scowl on her face. Yes, this is his guitar, yes, he is a customer, but he's also keeping her from working on it, god. "What?"

"Cellos. I'm looking for someone who deals in them. High-quality, hand-crafted--I'm talking the finest you can find in the city."

Curiousity; Helena (yes, apparently her name is Helena) has it. "I can look into it."

Adrian drums on the counter with both hands, grinning--and oh. He recognizes this person. 'This person' being Sakura. "Ah--hi."

Well, that's not awkward.

Rachel is cutting through the park on her way to get some coffee, and enjoy her day off from work. She's got a definite spring in her step, and she's happy to just be out enjoying the world.

She walks along a path, and glances to her right at a sound coming out from a copse, up in the grassy area. She frowns slightly and strides up to it, stepping between the trees to discover two cats. There's some sort of machinery, too, and if Rachel didn't know better, she'd swear the cats were... trying to pull it away.

Well. This is Chicago.

She clears her throat. "Hi! Can I help?" It's more to get the cats' attention; she doesn't actually expect an answer.

Cy leaps about a foot straight up and flees behind a tree as soon as she lands.

Ragnar, meanwhile, stares after her with a slightly bemused expression. "I had not thought anything we were doing would be cause for concern."

He looks up at Rachel. "I apologize if we disturbed you. Cy enlisted my help with this..."

Ragnar blinks at it. "...thing."

"I, well... no, no..."

The cat. Is talking. And all Rachel can think is, thank God this is happening today when I am much more prepared for this kind of crazy shit, than on my first day, when I would've though I'd lost my shit.

"I'm the one who should apologize. You aren't disturbing me and I just scared your friend."

She looks down at the thing. "Were you trying to move it? Can I help?"

"Mine!" Cy races out from behind the tree, jumps up onto her prize and scolds at Rachel. "Mine, see?"

Ragnar gives the younger cat a baleful look. "There is no need for that. She was simply being polite."

Luka is in Grant Park as well. She likes the park, the ever-shifting patterns of the mindfeelings of the other people who come here. Feeling two unfamiliar mindfeelings, she wanders over to investigate.

It's a pair of cats, but they have mindfeelings. She's seen cats before, and normal cats don't have mindfeelings. Maybe they're people who turn into animals like the bear from Los Angeles. But the bear from Los Angeles felt like a normal person, and these two don't. Luka is confused.

Well, the easiest way to figure it out is to ask. "You have funny mindfeelings," Luka says. "What are you?"

Cy drops the wires she has in her mouth and stares up at Luka. "Bow," she says, "I am cat!"

Ragnar drops his own burden and whaps her lightly over the head. "Indeed. We are both cats, though there is no need for you to bow."

He looks up at Luka. "You sense something different about us?"

Luka is used to following orders, so she's already halfway into a bow when Ragnar says she doesn't have to. She aborts, looking somewhat silly in the process, although she herself doesn't realize that.

"You have a mindfeeling, like people. Other cats don't," Luka says. "Do you turn into people, like the bear?"

"I do not," says Ragnar. "This one, however, acquired that particular skill when coming through the rift."

Cy preens. "Thumbs." Brief, naked, human Cy. "Thumbs!" Fuzzy, smug, kitten Cy.

"We are, however, first and foremost, cats."

Jacob is exploring Chicago. He'd like to find a job so he can get his own place. As nice as it is to have free shit (especially a free room), the building is creepy.

Apparently, however, the economy is down the gutter. Everyone needs jobs. Nobodies hiring. He's not discouraged though. He'll get a job in due time. Who wouldn't want to hire him? He's young, enthusiastic, sociable, and pretty damn attractive, too.

It's the cats dragging metal through Grant Park that distract him from the job searching.

"Just when I started to think I was getting used to this crazy city," he mutters, walking closer in an attempt to figure out what it is.

What could cats want with a machine? It sounds almost like it could be diabolical, like they're taking it back to their master's lair.

Jacob grimaces. I have got to get out of the superhero frame of mind. Gotta blame the angel for that.

"Crazy city sitting pretty," Cy mutters, picking up on Jacob's approach. Ragnar pauses and looks up at the young man.

"Good evening. I trust we aren't taking something to which you have a claim?"

Yes, Jacob, you've just walked yourself into a pair of talking cats.

Jacob stops. His face forms the equivalent expression of a text doing a ....

"Holy shit," he mutters.

He looks around the park to see if anything looks fishy like cameras are poking out of the bushes or people looking over this way with smiles on their faces.

"You're playin' with me, right? I'm on one of those hidden camera shows where they make you look like a jackass in front of all these people?"

"Jackass. Fucker. Hobag! Bitches and cheese!" She chases her tail and falls over. Ragnar watches the whole display in bemusement.

"You are not on any kind of show of which I am aware. To which people are you referring?"

Martha wanders up to the roof at some point during the renovations. She gave Winny permission after all, and she'd like to check in and to see if there's any way that she can help.

She steps out on to the roof, and then smiles at the bustle of activity here. It's much better than occasionally wandering up here to find people looking as though they'd much rather jump off than deal with their own emptiness any longer. No one has ever jumped, at least.

...yet.

"I came up to offer any assistance that I could," Martha says once she finds Winny and Radcliffe in all the busy activity. "It looks as though you have it under control. Still. You may not need me, but I'd love to help. Mom used to have a sort of mini-garden when I was growing up. I loved working on it with her."

"Oh, hello!" Winny beams at her, and Radcliff manages a stiff--if respectful--nod. "We're just getting the basics at the moment! Plotting everything out, organizing, et cetera. Oh! Oh, actually, yes! Is there some way we could get a map of the electrical whatsits that run below us right here?"

She clasps Martha's hands in hers. "Thank you again for letting me do this. It's such an excellent space up here, and it seems so lonely."

"Very important to start with planning before jumping directly in," Martha says with wide smile of agreement, and then she nods at the request. "Oh, of course. That's more than easy enough. I can get it squared away for you when I head back downstairs."

Martha squeezes Winny's hand. "It's no problem at all. I'm glad to see it getting done. It is rather lonely. I think people come up here too often brood, which is never good for anyone's well being. As we all know. The garden should bring a much more positive atmosphere to the roof. I'm excited."

"I'm glad! I want to make it nice. Smell nice. Look nice, too, but one of the things people always seem to forget about gardens are the smells, you know?"

Radcliff makes an incredulous sound and stops someone from clocking Winny accidentally with a pole. "Most people don't spend as much time with plants as you."
