Topher is out and about in Chicago. He came into the city to visit an independent music store, and now he's just stalling on driving back home. Stalling is reasonable since driving West in the afternoon has a whole new level of suck for him these days. On the other hand, it's overcast, so maybe he's just stalling to avoid the commuter traffic.

Who he runs into, however, is up to chance.

Romeo doesn't like other vampires. He likes his own family (for the most part) as much as anyone like their own family, but that's about the extent of it. They tend to differ quite a lot. Most vampires aren't powerful enough for Romeo to be interested in them.

He eyes Topher from further down the sidewalk in Romeo's creepy, vampire way of eyeing people. Yeah, talking is overrated, but freaking others out by staring at them? Why not? He's bored.

Topher, for his part, doesn't pay a lot of attention to his surroundings. He's making sure he's not going to walk into someone or something, but most of his thoughts are on trying to remember how to get to a particular used bookstore from this street.

It's the smell he notices. Not that Romeo smells bad or anything, just that it's a new smell, and not in the different-cologne kind of way. It's a smell that Topher's brain says he should pay attention to, but not in a fight-or-flight way. At least not completely.

That is what makes Topher actually look around to see what the source might be. Of course, by the time he actually spots Romeo, he's gotten pretty close, and he hasn't quite connected the smell with the person, so he just gives Romeo a friendly smile and keeps walking.

...and considers finding a good place to cross the street, because he might be a bit of a doofus, but he doesn't really want to get mugged or something.

(OOC: SO SORRY FOR THE DELAY. Life has been kicking my butt, and Romeo isn't the easiest to brain for.)

Romeo raises his eyebrows at Topher at the friendly smile. He could tell by the expression on his face that he had sensed something new.

"You're not very good, are you? Or not very experienced," he says before Topher can get too far away. "I suppose it makes little difference either way."
