For you I'd burn the length and breadth of sky [Locked]

Aniki's been gathering maps of Chicago for days, marking CLF attack sites and points of interest, pinpointing the most violent actions, the most public ones--and the occasional attack that doesn't seem like CLF at all. It's a trick she learned from Beka, It certainly narrows down their search zone ( Read more... )

Tay probably shouldn't be out again tonight, after her spectacularly blundered hunt earlier this evening. But she had just gotten done patching up the worst of the scrapes (none of them were bad, they just stung, and she'd have some nasty bruises) when she saw the journal entry and, well, she could really use a good proper hunt, with backup and people who know what they're doing.

She's not going for subtle this time. She's got her machete on her back, her shotgun strapped to her back in case of emergency, strategically placed to not get in the way of drawing the machete. Knives in her boots, one of her larger handguns on her hip and her trusty Kimber at the small of her back. She's got extra ammo for everything, on her belt, and she is so very ready to kill things.

The extra espresso shot in her frappuccino probably didn't hurt.

"Okay," she grumbles as she nears the warehouse, glancing around for "the sparrow". "What the fuck am I supposed to be doing now?"

Follow the yellow brick road, Tay!

...or follow the tiny, literal sparrow that darts down out of seemingly nowhere and pinwheels around the angel's head. It alights, briefly, atop a massive piece of concrete, then darts away again on a zig-zag path toward the warehouse.

Tay raises an eyebrow, but follows carefully. This is an apparently unprotected area - anyone worth their salt (and she's pretty sure Aniki is) is going to have booby traps. Following the sparrow is avoiding said traps, some of which she picks out as she moves, but not all of them.

"So I'm hoping you're a shapeshifter, 'cause otherwise that's fucking creepy."

Ace is mad. Dev, on the other hand, is furious ( ... )

"A dead child and no real plans, at the moment," she rumbles, not looking up. She checked the area around Ace to make sure no one had followed the woman--or been led by her--before bringing her in.

"There's a few others coming. I thought we might split up, scour through the areas we know these scummer-sucking bastards have been active."

Ace comes up alongside her, inspecting the maps and other papers. "Mm. Decent enough. Cover of darkness, though, maybe. Not wanting to get the cops on us. Broad-daylight gunfights tend to attract 'em."

She finally looks up into Aniki's face, studying her properly for the first time. She has the look of a warrior, of a Valkyrie almost. She'll definitely be an asset.

Ace pulls a lollipop out of her pocket, peels off the wrapper, and pops it in her mouth. "Who else is coming?"

There's a scruffy teenager lurking outside the warehouse, looking like she's trying to be both as inconspicuous as possible and put out her best 'don't fuck with me' swagger at the same time. Now that she's here, she's really not sure whether she wants to be or even should be or not. But the CLF is fuckin' with her friends (or, well, one of them, once) and she's sick of sitting around and taking it. Only a matter of time until they find one of her Pack, anyway.

She's totally unarmed, at the moment, though she's also not expecting to fight immediately. And really, Huck is never unarmed unless restrained enough that she can't change -- a huge timber wolf, albeit a slightly skinny one, still has a lot of very sharp predator teeth, and that's what Huck's banking on now.

So she's just going to lurk and keep an eye out for any animal life, like sparrows.

And lo, one appears! It circles her, once, giving several agitated little bobs--

she can smell the predator on this one, snapping teeth, snarling tongue, instinct says to fly far, fly fast, can't take a predator alone

--and, in defiance of instinct, landing right in front of Huck.

Aniki will be damned thrice over before she lets a bird's natural fears make her run from someone younger than Beka.

She takes off again, marking a path to the warehouse door, and vanishes inside without waiting for the girl to follow. By the time Huck gets there, she'll be fully human and fully clothed, standing over a table covered in maps.

Huck hesitates a bit before trotting after the sparrow, looking slightly uneasy about wandering into the warehouse, and yet, at the same time, she's kind of excited. It's one thing to wander into crime scenes at night or run around in areas she's not supposed to because they're interesting to explore, and quite another to walk into a place answering a call to hunt when she's still not entirely sure she's okay with the idea that she can kill someone.

So she spends a bit of time lurking in the shadows when she gets into the warehouse proper, taking in what she can of the people already there and and the woman in the middle of the warehouse who seems to be in charge -- besides, she smells of prey, as much as Huck can smell anything over the smell of old blood in the place. And the much more immediate smell of homeless, but she's mostly used to that.

She'll get around to approaching in a minute, as soon as she's taken everything in and screwed up her fifteen-year-old bravado again.

This is not the part of town Gabe usually spends his time in.

In fact, this is the part of town most of his family tree would avoid if only because the look of it irritates their upper class standards. Never mind what they'd think of the people.

Doesn't matter, though. He's here because the CLF are still running around, still killing innocent people-
(getting other people killed)
-because someone living in this place wants to do something about it.

He doesn't want to be a demon. Doesn't really want to be a killer, either. But if he has to turn into some evil thing, he's going to try and do it for a damn good reason.

So here he is; dressed in older, dark colored clothing, unarmed (either his mother started carrying her gun for her own protection/hopes for revenge or she'd found a better place to hide it) and hoping he's not too late to meet 'Aniki' and whoever else answered the call.

A sparrow streaks down out of the evening sky and lands in front of Gabe, briefly, before shooting back into the air and circling him twice. It lands again on a twisted piece of rebar and then skips ahead, bobbing from chunk of rubble to twisted patch of flora, marking a path to the warehouse.

By the time Gabe gets there, the sparrow will have disappeared, and a tall, muscled blonde will be waiting in the doorway (fully clothed). She's a few years older than Gabe, but her expression is hard as wrought metal.

"You've no weapons and, from the way you carry yourself, no experience," she says, not even waiting for an introduction. "Is there a reason you think you won't slow us down?"

There's a flash of emotion - pain, anger, disappointment? - in his eyes before he closes them for a breath. Exhale, and the next look he gives her shows nothing but a cool determination.

"Maybe I haven't ever had to fight for my life, but I'm not completely untrained, either. If nothing else, maybe I can keep some Lackwitted Failure from getting the drop on someone while they're dealing with a few of his buddies."
