Aniki's been gathering maps of Chicago for days, marking CLF attack sites and points of interest, pinpointing the most violent actions, the most public ones--and the occasional attack that doesn't seem like CLF at all. It's a trick she learned from Beka, It certainly narrows down their search zone

In many ways, his own personal code is a lot stricter, a lot harsher, than Ace's. He's the one who loses control, after all. He's "the crazy one." So he's the one to reign himself in more when it comes to killing people, or rather, when it comes to selecting targets. And he likes kids, in the same way that he likes animals, because they're odd little things that are fun to watch. He likes killing kids about as much as he likes killing animals, but he'll do it, if it's a family job, if the client is willing to pay enough. It's not about the blood, with kids--it's about the money and the client's wishes and nothing else.
Ace doesn't really like kids. They're annoying. They have jam hands. They're noisy. But killing kids is annoying too, if only because it bothers what little conscience she has. Never mind that Dev's boiling, half-crazed fury is filtering over to her.
And now the Front has gone and started killing kids. Not for a practical reason, like money, but for what the frankly ridiculous reasons of fear, hate, prejudice, all the hot-button words that get thrown around in situations like this. It goes against their code; never kill without a good reason.
So here Ace is, following a sparrow into what looks like an abandoned warehouse, the familiar, warm weight of what are probably more weapons than is strictly necessary draped over her. Dev should be the one here, Dev who is actually worked up about this, but Ace is the one that Aniki knows. Ace spots her among the homeless people going over what look like maps. Ace crosses the warehouse to her, slowly so as not to startle anyone.
"What have we got?"

"There's a few others coming. I thought we might split up, scour through the areas we know these scummer-sucking bastards have been active."

She finally looks up into Aniki's face, studying her properly for the first time. She has the look of a warrior, of a Valkyrie almost. She'll definitely be an asset.
Ace pulls a lollipop out of her pocket, peels off the wrapper, and pops it in her mouth. "Who else is coming?"
