In the Conrad, there's an archangel prowling. Julia Angelos looks something like her mother - not enough that she's going to be mistaken for her, but enough that anyone catching her out of the corner of their eye might get an odd sense of deja vu. She's been here a couple days, and isn't sure she's going to stay, but ( Read more... )

Well, he may or may not be someone to get into a fight with, Nate, but if you grouse enough, he'll probably take you out for a beer.

Owen is leaning against the wall of one of the halls in front of Nate, looking surly and sullen and all in all much like he always does. Except a lot more bored. At least in the Hub there were things to dissect or medical records to forge or UNIT liaisons to heckle or missions to go on or, hell, even that alien game of solitaire Tosh let loose on their computers which none of them could work out how to uninstall; here, he's... standing in a hall, dislodging ghosts from the walls.

They kinda flicker out of the wall in front of him, hang there for a moment, then take a couple of steps or float up to the ceiling or spin around really fast and then disappear.

This serves no practical purpose, but it passes the time.

Nate's steps slow a little, just enough to take in the ghosts, and the doctor, and Nate doesn't even want to know what he's doing with them. As a matter of fact, he's pretty sure he doesn't care. He lets out a disgusted sigh, and continues on past, clipping Owen a little with his shoulder as he moves by him.

Nate is not subtle. Nate is not going for subtle. Nate hates everything and everyone and is looking to spread his misery.

Thank you, Nate, you have jarred Owen's attention. And when you jar Owen's attention while he's pulling ghosts out of the walls...

Well, really, nothing happens other than ghosts cease coming out of the walls, but that's not the point.

Owen gives him a sidelong glance. It's not like the hall wasn't wide enough, with him right against the wall, and it's not like he's really so dense that he can't notice when someone's displaying the exact same mood as everyone else in the Tower.

"You know," he says. "If life's got you by the scrotum, there are more effective ways of dealing with that than elbowing past blokes in the hall."

Nate snorts and whirls around to face him, glaring like everything's Owen's fault. It's not, but he can't get to the people he does blame, so he'll take it out on the nearest available target. "Yeah, well, killing my ward seemed like a plan doomed to failure, so this seemed like a good second choice."

Hi, Sydney, have you met your father? Of course, you have.

Jack really should have dealt with this the day it happened, but he was... Detained... By the fact that he was stuck as a hedgehog and when you get stuck as a hedgehog, you don't really do much... Because you're a hedgehog.

But now he's human-shaped and has legitimate questions.

"I heard you were attacked." As opposed to got into a fight, but, really, it's the same difference. There was bloodshed and someone needs to die. ALL JACK NEEDS TO KNOW.

Sydney sighs and looks up, setting the flower down on the arm of the couch. "Hi, Dad," she comments wryly. "Nice to see you too. It was the demon who attacked Vaughn. She had my face and she knew my name." Sydney is not happy about either of these things. Not. Happy. At all.

Pleasantries are for other people, especially when there are things out there that need killing, and from the look on Jack's face, it's clear that he's not happy at all.

...Of course, there's not much of a difference between his face now and every other time, so it's hard to tell, honestly.

"I see," he responds gruffly. "I assume the demon in question is still at large?"

Because Jack puts a lot of stock in the competency of other people. Oh yeah.

Just once, she's going to have a normal conversation with her father. And then she is going to die of shock. "I don't know. A couple of angels pulled them off me and Casey, and then the police showed up." So maybe they won't have to deal with those particular demons ever again. ...Yeah, and maybe Jack Bristow will give up his life as a spy and become a cake decorator. Sydney's not holding out much hope.

The training room's currently occupied by an young archangel who's currently engaged in beating the shit out of a punching bag. Her vision's not perfect, still, and she may never have perfect depth perception... But as far as she's concerned, that just means she has to learn to compensate. Glasses and contacts and things are great, but she's not going to rely on either if she can help it. Too much can go wrong with vision correction.

She's been doing a pretty good job of compensating so far, but she's still not perfect. Nowhere near. So she trains.

As it is, she catches Julia out of the corner of her bad eye first, and it's enough that she whirls, wings spreading in excitement, only to find...

Yeah. Romana Angelos Fell and died, and nothing's changing that.

"Sorry. For a second, you looked like..." She shakes her head. "Been in here too fuckin' long."

Julia holds up her hands just a little as the angel spins - she doesn't think it's exactly an aggressive movement, but when an archangel turns toward you that quickly, it's generally a good idea to reassure them you're harmless. Or at least well-intentioned.

The comment gets a wry smile, as she drops her hands and moves a little further into the room, graceful, and as non-threatening as she can manage, rust and black wings held slightly spread and relaxed. "Yeah. Been getting that a lot lately - family resemblance. Sorry I'm not who you thought." And she's got a pretty damn good idea who that is. Looks too young to have known Claudia, so... yeah. Of course.

Elena shrugs. "Hey, I shoulda known better. Just freaked me out a bit. Fucked my eye all up a while back, so anything that comes up on that side's kinda... fuzzy."

It's meant to be a bit reassuring -- no, it's not that the resemblance is that strong, just one little archangel with a bad eye, really.

She grins a little, embarrassed. "I'm Elena."

Julia smiles back, and her smile's nothing like her mother's - less controlled, less reserved, something of a dare to it, though what that dare is is anybody's guess. "Julia," she answers, leaving off the surname by habit more than anything. "You one of Vincent's kids?"

The training room at the Conrad -is- damn good, and it's not only archangels who like to take advantage of it.

Faith, who has never met Julia's mother and therefore has no expectations whatsoever, is pounding away at a bag, loud music blaring from her headphones.

She would enjoy having a sparring partner she doesn't have to hold back with.

Julia's pace slows a little as she steps into the training room and sees someone there. Not an angel, she can sense that right off, but she moves like one, speed and strength and all, and that's... interesting. Wanderers. One thing they never are is dull.

Faith has definitely never been described as dull.

Deadly, dangerous, damn sexy, and a lot of other things, but never dull.

She notices Julia while she's circling the bag; she lowers her hands and nods a greeting, wishing she could tell humans from not-humans in this reality. Her Slayer senses are all but useless, and she hates that.

Julia nods in response to the greeting and lets out her wings, relatively small things - for an archangel - all in rust red and black. Well, that answers one of Faith's questions.

"Hey," she comments, still eying Faith thoughtfully. "Not bad for a human." Her tone's easy and friendly, gently teasing - she doesn't mean anything by it, because she can tell this girl knows her way around a fight.

Dusty never knew Romana, which is probably a blessing - she would've been terrified of the woman. She is, however, trying to find someone with a cell phone who'll let her call Tokyo - hey, she misses Molly, what can you do? And the archangels all seem to talk to each other a lot anyway, so...

"Um, excuse me?" she calls out to Julia as she passes. "Um, you wouldn't happen to have a way to call Tokyo, would you?"

Julia stops a moment, and then turns to face the angel with a little smile. "Don't they have phones in this hotel?" she asks, but it's more an idle question. After that, she shrugs. "Got a cellphone with plenty of minutes I never use anyway. Who does a children's angel know in Tokyo?" No, Julia does not know for sure that she's a children's angel, but it's a good guess. They're kind of easy to pick out.

Dusty grins really wide and rocks back on her heels. The possibility of getting to use a phone is exciting. "I don't want to use the hotel phones 'cause... well, 'cause it just feels weird, trying to call out of the country from a hotel. It's really expensive. And I want to call my friend Molly. She was staying here with Miss Mitsuki when I got here, and she gave me a mood ring for Christmas, and I really miss her."

Julia chuckles a little, and jerks her head, indicating that if Dusty would like to get up and follow her... "It's in my room. Don't usually carry it around with me. Mitsuki, that's the little general from Tokyo, yeah?" She's met her a time or two. She likes Mitsuki. Doesn't know this Molly person, but Mitzi's got a lot of kids.
