Strictly speaking, Des's life has been a bit miserable lately. Granted, if he had any idea of the weeks other people he knows have been having or had any idea of how much worse it may or may not inevitably get, he'd probably have a little more perspective on how miserable miserable can really be.
At the moment, however, he is in a significantly better mood. He had a moment of impulsiveness earlier today when he overheard someone talking in a bar (he's a former detective- he's good at listening even when people are trying to be surreptitious) about a forger who was operating in the basement of a bookstore in the general downtown area. Forgeries are just what a Wanderer needs to actually have any hope of blending into real society, so he just had to pay her a visit. Cute kid. Angel of Knowledge with a funny name and a damn good forger at that.
The new identity papers (now clutched in the folder in his hands as he walks through the door to the Casa del OT3) aren't even the sweetest part of the deal. Granted, he should probably be a bit more cautious when getting in debt to what could possibly be the mafia or organized crime (his new forger friend didn't really give any details on that front, but he's dealt with the mafia enough to suspect), but he's not thinking as clearly as he could be, all things considering. He just wants something good, something to distract himself from everything.
And starting his very own PI firm here in this world? Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to him. It's like the final step in acclimating himself here.
"Anyone home?" He calls as soon as he's inside. He sounds a bit more cheerful than he has lately, so that's bound to be startling to people.
