You can tell from the red in my eyes that I'm not right now at all...

Several people are having a Very Bad Day.

Nate is in the kitchen, sitting at the table in the back where he and Mat used to hide out before they got their wards. Sulking is not what he's doing. He's just... thinking. Very, very sulkily. There are several people he'd like to hurt now. Of course, considering one of those people is a First Angel, one ( Read more... )

Des doesn't so much Know Things as he's generally very good at figuring things out and somehow he figured out that Kara had fled the hotel. We don't question what brought him to that realization, just that he did eventually come to it and now he's standing just a few feet from the tree.

He left a note for Grace on his door, explaining where he went and if she feels anything strange, it's probably because of Kara. He's... Not really sure if another person's psychic distress being accidentally projected on him will register on her senses or not, so best to cover all the bases. He doesn't need her having a small panic attack on top of everything else.

"Who do I have to punch to make you come down?" He asks. It's mostly a joke, but with that hint of seriousness that suggests he really will punch someone if it'll make everything better. It's his thing. Apparently.

Des stands up long enough to move a little bit closer to her and sits down right beside her this time, laying a protective hand on her shoulder. "Hey, it's okay. I just don't know what the hell's going on. It freaks me out a little." Or, you know, a lot.

As often as he has no idea what's going on, he ought to be used to it, but somehow he never is. That's one of the reasons why he got into his job- the pursuit of understanding something fucked-up and driving it out into the light for everyone to see.

It's just been harder and harder to do that lately.

Kara frowns at him for a moment, and then tentatively leans against him, still mostly curled into herself. "You can't know. You don't know and you didn't and you won't, so you can't. It's not your job." She says all of that forcefully, as if by saying it that way she'll be able to knock some sense and compliance into him, but her voice drops off towards the end, gets quiet and soft and small as she adds, "It's mine."

Des sighs. Arguing with Kara is not the most agreeable of pasttimes, mostly because somehow she always manages to say things that make him back down. Not even Pagiel could do that and she tried harder than anyone to talk sense into him.

He wraps an arm around her and rests his head against hers. "I'm not going to like the way this is going to end, am I?"

Yeah, Des, we're pretty sure that's a given, but it's the way things are.

"You wouldn't like the way anything ends," Kara says with a faint smile, almost teasing though she can't quite muster the energy for it. "That's why they're endings."

She doesn't say it, but there's the faint hint of idiot in her tone. But it's a warm, loving sort of idiot. Of course.
