And he can see the turn of the universe...

The Doctor has finally left Martha's side - with many, many assurances that he's coming back. He just... needs to get out, needs to get some air, needs to wander a bit. For some reason, whenever he's out, he tends to gravitate to the pier. Which, considering he was stabbed the first time he wandered out there, is a bit of a mystery ( Read more... )

Now, they didn't go on a full-out restructuring yet, but Ves helped her smooth over the little fractures, and put those walls up. They've faded, mostly, though she's built up some of her own after the same pattern. They're nowhere near as strong as Ves' shields, but she's nowhere near as powerful a psychic as he is.

But she's convinced the TARDIS that she'll be alright if she goes out for a little bit, and honed in on the Doctor's mind. She has to make sure... something. She's not sure what.

So here, Doctor. Have a tiny, blonde, newly-sane psychic who's not going to bother with words, just going to throw her arms around your waist and cling.

The Doctor had not been expecting that. He hadn't expecting anyone to come running at him at all, much less cling to him, so he jumps. A little. And then looks down and realizes it's April, and hugs her without any hesitation (though a good measure of confusion).

"April! ...Should you be out? You know there are..." psychotic shapechanging murderers "...people out here who... What're you doing here?"

"I was worried," she says, her voice muffled by his suit. "You were hurting so bad, and I couldn't--" she stops. She doesn't want to talk about that. "I know to stay away from the bad guys, I really do, I was just worried and--"

Yeah, cling.

Oh. Damn it. This is the problem making friends with psychics.

He hugs her a little tighter, lifting her briefly off her feet - not that it's hard, she's so tiny. "I'm... I'm fine. Honestly. I wasn't for a while, but now I am, and it's okay."

Aubrey had originally wandered to the cells to check out whatever interesting animal specimens were in them -- xe'd overheard quiet mentions of such things in the past week and had finally decided to check it out. Xe didn't expect to find Tosh in there, and was about to back out quietly when xe noticed what she was doing. Or rather, noticed that she was tinkering with something, and couldn't really tell what.

Xe's crept up a bit on her without realizing it, watching, so xe's only a few feet away when xe speaks: "What're you doing?"

Xe can't help it. Xe sees people building things and wants to help out. Or at least watch.

[OOC: Sorry for the delete, realized I hadn't specified who Aubs was talking to. Damn not having an edit button.]

Tosh looks up at the sound of his voice, sees it's Aubrey, and gives him a quick smile before turning back to the task at hand. "At the moment, attempting to set up a security system for this cell." She pauses, glances to Aubrey again, and adds, "It's... probably best if you don't ask why."

Considering they're trying to keep this a secret from the hotel at large... which is a lot easier to do when you're not sharing space with a bunch of civilians.

Aubrey raises xes eyebrows in appreciation. "Quite a complicated system," xe says. Xe's used to 'security' meaning simply a lock and some cameras, really. "And don't worry. I'm starting to learn my lesson about asking questions. I'm finding most of the answers I get are things I would have been just fine not knowing about." Magic, fae, people turning into cats, literal guardian angels. The like. All xe had to worry about back home was Big Brother and aliens.

"I don't suppose you'll mind if I watch?" xe asks. Xe'd offer to help, but she seems pretty intent on what she's doing, and xe doesn't know her well enough to butt in on her projects quite yet. The elevator didn't count. That was a crisis.

"Not compared to the security in the Hub at home," Tosh says with a smile. "But Torchwood had over a hundred years and a lot of alien technology to build that..."

Here, they've just got her, and the resources of 21st century Earth and a very useful credit card. They make do.

She considers his question, and then decides it's not like watching is going to give him any great insight that just coming down when she's done and looking at it is going to give him - and anyway, she's fairly sure she can trust him. It's only general Torchwood paranoia that made her consider it.

"Of course. Just... don't get too close to any of the cages. Some of them are a little aggressive towards human." Tosh pauses, and then nods to the giant squirrel in the cage next to the one she's working on. "The squirrel doesn't seem terribly aggressive, though."

She doesn't belong here, she knows that, so she's running, hiding in little dark corners and only moving when she knows it's safe. Keep out of sight, at least for the most part. Nobody thinks to do anything to you when they can't see you.

She's stopped a few feet away, looking up to the clouded sky and finds herself so thankful for it. If it rained, less people would be inclined to wander around and she could move more freely, at least for a time.

Even now people are beginning to scatter and she decides to be a little daring, darting off to the edge of the pier, walking very close to the edge. There's someone a few feet away from her, a stick of a man who somehow seems a little out of place against the rest of it all.

It intrigues her, if only a little.

So don't mind, Doctor if there's a little red panda creeping closer and closer to you, even getting so close that she might risk being stepped on, she's just a little curious is all.

The Doctor notices her after a while, and blinks down at her. Well then. A stray cat or dog he might understand, or a squirrel, but... this is a bit odd?

He smiles a little, stops, and drops into a crouch so he can look at her more on her level and hold out a hand to her. "Hello there. You're a bit out of place, aren't you?"

No, he's not at all concerned that she might bite him or anything. If fear of that sort of thing ever stopped him... well, he wouldn't be the Doctor.

She would say the same to him if she had the ability to in this shape.

Instead she takes to sniffing at his hand (it smelled different, not bad, but certainly not the kind of smell that she'd been expecting) and it puts her a little on edge. Unfamiliar wasn't bad per se but it certainly wasn't something to be fully trusted either.

Even so she's move a little closer, lightly nuzzling at his wrist, as she walks forward, winding between his as her tail curls lightly around his arm for just a moment.

If he tries anything, anything at all, she knew she was ready to run but for the most part, he seemed essentially harmless.

Oh, how little she knew.

The Doctor grins a little as her tail winds around his arm. A good way to brighten the Doctor's day is to give him something new and shiny to play with. That "something new and shiny" may just be an animal several thousand miles outside of its natural habitat, but whatever works...

"Now, you're either a shapeshifter, or dropping something like you in Chicago is the Rift's idea of a joke," he remarks conversationally to her. "Care to tell me which it is?"

Because if it is an actual red panda just deposited here by the Rift, she'll be able to tell him that...

[OOC: Yay slowtime? I figure this needs to happen before... Shit goes down. And yay for Marshall speaking again.]Considering Marshall's only been a member of Torchwood 4 for a few days, it's kind of adorable how easily he's adjusted. Then again, despite the major difference in... Well, okay most everything, there's enough familiarity there to make the transition go smoothly... That and he just adjusts well to change, apparently ( ... )

Tosh glances over at the sound of Marshall's voice, and then decides she'd better stop what she's doing for the moment and head over to check on him. She'll feel bad if he's close enough that something can reach out and maul him.

"I guess no one mentioned the monsters?" she asks with a smile as she comes around the corner. "Sorry about that."

"You'd think that'd be a part of the orientation or something," Marshall notes in a tone that might have been an attempt at casual, but sort of failed at it. He finally manages to tear his eyes away from the thing. "Monsters in the basement. Just when I think I've seen it all... Well, okay, I've been here less than a week, so obviously I haven't seen it all and I get that this is the sort of place that just gets weirder and... They can't get out right?" He gestures to the creature and then makes a face. "Well, obviously they can't get out if they're in cages, but I didn't know if this could turn into a Jurassic Park type of situation. You know the movie with the dinosaurs and.. Rrow." Yes, he did just make a dinosaur noise and make what can only be described as 'scary raptor hands'.

Annnd it'd be a good idea to stop him there before he goes off on some tangent about the Jurassic Park films.

"Most people don't have a reason to come down here," Tosh says with a smile. "We haven't actually gotten any dinosaurs down here. It's probably only a matter of time... Torchwood had a pet pterodactyl back in Cardiff."

She pauses a moment, and then beckons for him to follow her, starting back down the hall to the cell she'd been working on. "The cell's this way. Don't get too close to any of the cages. Some of the creatures bite."

[ooc: I actually meant to tag this sooner, but Koschei was eating my brain.]

Zacky's been on the search for his brother most of the day, but to no avail, he has yet to find him. Stumbling into the common room, he's quick to notice both the dog and the blond girl. Because she wasn't an angel like many o the ones he saw around. Oh no. She was different.

And different was interesting and made him very, very curious.

"What's it's name?" He asks quietly, shyly as he approaches, glancing from the dog to her with great curiosity in his eyes. Chances are, she'll notice he's not quite right either.

"Ferdinand," Annie says without thinking, before she has time to notice more about him than just the words. "I didn't name him, so you can blame Becky for that. If you ask me, naming a puppy Ferdinand is just-" And then she looks up. And actually registers... not so much who he is as what he is.

"Oh! Hello!" Most demons are edgy around Nephilim, but Annie is not most demons. Considering her friendship with Becky... Annie is far from "most demons".

Zacky tenses only slightly when she stops, but her reaction has him grinning far wider than before. Settling down on the floor near the dog, he cautiously reaches out to pet it.

"Hello!" From what he can tell, he's pretty sure she's very different from most of the ones he's met before. "N' Ferdinand is a good name. S'different, not many 'Ferdinand's at all. Not many that I've seen anyways."

Looking up from the dog after a moment, he smiles, "'M Zacky."

"Well, yeah, I guess, but have you ever tried calling 'Ferdinand' in the park? Really, it's ridiculous." Ferdinand is busy nibbling at Zacky's fingertips, tail wagging wildly. Ferdinand likes new people.

Annie grins, because anyone Ferdinand likes, she's willing to give a chance. "I'm Annie. Nice to meet you!" She's actually a little surprised there's a Nephilim here, and that Romana hasn't tried to kill him too.
