Rachel knocked lightly on the side of door before poking her head inside. "Knock knock" she said, stepping into the room. She adjusted the magazine in her arms and moved to the chair by the bed. She smiled softly as she sat down. "Are you up for a visit? If not I can come back later." she rolled the magazine in her hands before sticking it in her purse.
At the knock, Kurt's eyes shifted from the window to the door to see who was trying to get his attention and his eyebrows rose slowly and tiredly in a weak surprise to see who it was. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your presence?" he asked as he lifted his arm to untangle the IV line from where he had gotten it curled around the edge of his hospital blanket.
It had been some time she he had seen Rachel or even had much of a conversation with her. He wasn't even sure what she was up to these days, but then he hadn't been in the best of forms to be a Facebook frequent flyer. She probably was lower down on his list of visitors he might have expected now he wasn't in the scary hell-hole that was the ICU with it's sci-fi feel and the sensation you were lying in a fishbowl and couldn't even fart without a team of medical professionals swooping on you.
"Singing telegram," she replied, "only no message and no singing; I heard you were finally allowed to have non-familial visitors. Finn suggested it since I haven't had a chance to come down as much as I wanted to."
She had been intending to stop by. Much sooner than she had but her director had come unbalanced when one of the other leads had come down with something and forbid anyone from doing anything involving being around sick people. "How are you feeling?" she asked
At least it was lucky for Rachel what he had wasn't catching if her work was way more important than her personal life. Shit happened, but it wasn't like Kurt was privy to her thoughts on any level and all he had to work with was the fact he had hardly seen her. It was very stark to Kurt lately who was missing as opposed to who wasn't because he was more than aware that his time couldn't be a ticking bomb and some people just didn't seem to realise how much. But if the end came, it would come and there wasn't a whole lot he could do about it.
"Yeah, I noticed," was all he said on the matter and cleared his throat. "Peachy. I just needed an all-expenses paid vacation and this place has awesome party drugs and room service at the push of a button," he said, gesturing to the nurse assist control. "What more could a guy want?"
It wasn't that Sam had been keeping his distance since Kurt's condition took a serious dive. He just hadn't wanted to get in the way while he was in the ICU. He remembered when Blaine was in there, and how everything was so very strict as to who had access and who hadn't. Sam had hung out in the waiting room some days, if only just to get news, after having lunch with Andrew but he waited until Kurt was able to have more visitors, meaning he was probably feeling better for them anyway

"Sam." Wow, this really was the day for surprise faces and Kurt lifted himself just slightly up onto the pillows where he had slumped down on them. "It's fine. Come on it. It feels like ages since I've even seen you... have you been getting ninja skills from Mike?" he joked with a faint smile.
He gave a nod to the visitors chair that usually housed Blaine's butt, urging Sam to sit down. "I haven't even congratulated you in person on the engagement. I've... seen Andy way more than I care to admit. The world would be a better place if I didn't need his butt pain face in my presence for obvious reasons, but how are you? And congratulations. It's fantastic. I honestly never thought Andy would be the marriage sort. Have you guys set a date yet? I may well have to demand wedding planning rights, you know..." It was a bittersweet joke. Kurt knew full well he might not actually be around to see Andrew and Sam get married, but he didn't want to linger on that thought at all.
Sam sat down without hesitation once Kurt confirmed he was okay for visitors at the moment. There was no way to deny that seeing Kurt like this was extremely confronting. He looked so sick, and even from the last time Sam had seen him, he had lost weight and there was a dullness in his eyes. He gave a small shake of his head. "No, just leaving the path clear for your family, dude. I didn't want to get in the way, but Andrew has been keeping me more than updated on everything. He talks a lot to me how he's feeling, and I know he cares about how you're doing a lot. I'm glad he's been able to help you, dude. You deserve the best of everything
( ... )
Kurt gave a small nod of understanding. "You wouldn't be in the way, you're family too, but it's not like I don't understand your reasoning. There is no right or wrong way to face any of this. I'm relieved to hear that Andy is talking to you. I know he can be a stubborn bitch on that front. You're right, though. He's a fantastic doctor and the way he has helped me, and Blaine, has been priceless. I can never repay him. Even when Blaine's losing it and getting upset, Andy is just wonderful with him." He paused watching Sam closely. "Your grandpa died of cancer, didn't he? I'm sorry, Sam. I know this must be taking a lot for you to be here. It's nice to see you, though. I like having my friends around

This time, Blaine actually crashed out into a really heavy sleep when he got back home and into bed. He clumsily stumbled his way through a shower and a shave, which let to him cutting himself twice and absolutely freaking out about the blood when Cooper tried to help him. But after the initial panic, he pulled himself together and covered both the nicks with little round band-aids so the bleeding stopped. Cooper understood, and he didn't try to shove himself up into Blaine's face and demand he still help. He just stood aside waiting to make sure his little brother was okay, and by that time, Blaine had exhausted himself, so they shared a hug and when Cooper checked in on him five minutes later, he was already out and sleeping deeply

A hint of a snorting snicker was Kurt's initial response as he looked at his brother-in-law hovering in the doorway. It was amusing to see Cooper hovering. He was the epitome of a hotshot lawyer and usually so sure of himself, but he just looked lost and uncertain right now. It was a look Kurt saw on a lot of people these days. "I can think of a few other people I would tell to piss off before I reached you. You know I do have to ask what you've done with my husband, though. Last I looked, he was shuffling behind you like a drugged puppy."
There was jest in his words, but he cleared his throat. "He's okay, right? You're not here to tell me he's not? He's been quiet these past couple of days. Moreso than usual. I don't think he wants me back on the chemo..."
Cooper huffed out a laugh of his own and came over to sit beside Kurt. He held out a paper bag he had been carrying. "Blaine said you've been really feeling the cold, so I stopped by this boutique he said you liked and picked you up a couple of scarves. It's natural stuff, so shouldn't upset your skin too much. He said that's been really sensitive too." Hell, any little thing he could do to help, he was going to do it. Blaine didn't like going out in the city alone, and he just didn't have the time or energy to go shopping, even with someone. There was also the fact that Kurt was very sick and in a lot of pain and discomfort just about all the time. If something tiny could help him, it was priceless
( ... )
This threw Kurt for a loop, and he didn't even entirely know why. As he reached for the bag, his eyes welled up with tears by just how touched he was at Cooper's gesture. He really had been feeling extensively cold since he had been in hospital. It was hard to explain, but it felt like his bones were chilled or something. Andrew had said it probably wasn't so much his condition causing it as the fact as he weakened, the body was on a bigger go-slow to maintain the functioning it was losing so his systems slowed and hence, the body didn't create as much heat as it normally would. Even if he had a fever, he was still feeling cold. So much thought had gone into Cooper's gesture, that it was priceless to Kurt and he gave his brother-in-law a watery smile. "I have, and thank you. You don't know how much that means to me
