so yes, the title is a hopeless rip off the X-Files episode of similar name. I couldn't help it. xD
One day, Myka decided, she was going to have to sit down and have a serious talk with Pete about not touching artifacts when they were supposed to be doing inventory.
Until then, she'd just settle for making it through the day.
He'd touched a chain of dominoes connected to a few strings and other random household pieces, gleefully setting in motion a cascade. They hadn't planned for shelves and artifacts starting to topple around them, and neither of them understood why until an index card fluttered to the ground.
Rube Goldberg's Domino Set

Causes simple yet powerful reactions in surroundings via complex means; chooses objects to scale. Dangerous if used indoors.
The two of them hastily reordered the dominoes, but not before a significant amount of ominous rumbling from the nearby aisles. They counted themselves lucky it just seemed to take longer to work on large objects.
Unfortunately, Myka only noticed the chute attached to the last domino and resulting flood of ping pong balls when the warehouse supplied what appeared to be a wall of dodge-balls for the occasion; the bad news was- she was about to be killed by rabid schoolyard toys, but on the bright side, at least they were lucky enough to get non-Baylor ones.
Before she could react Pete had grabbed her in something like a bear-hug and forcibly tugged her out of the way of the flood of red.
In the post dodge-ball hush, she didn't immediately notice how tight her partner's grip was. She took a deep breath and leaned forward to watch a few stray balls bounce lethargically into the corner.
"Pete... we're gonna have to stop having days where the warehouse tries to kill us at some point, right?"
"That's what they tell me," he muttered with a shrug, though with his arms still around her it ended up being more like a really big hug. Eventually, she started to move, only to feel an exhaled breath ruffle her hair.
"...Pete, are you smelling me?"
"What? No!" The arms abruptly vanished, sending her to the floor with a thud where she glared up at her partner's sheepish grin.
"Uhh... nice perfume?"
