fucking RAGE.

Also, (disregarding different social mores and that they'd be speaking ancient greek) I feel the Spartans and the Sacred band of Thebes would have words with the us military. About how their ass should not be worn on their head in the style of a hat.

(And, really, why don't I know the ancient Greek equivalent for asshat? This is what we get for not having a classical education.)

now i REALLY wish i had an icon from 300 or something, luuuulz. but yes, it's true, the spartans would pretty much shove their feet up our military's asses and wear them around like house slippers. YOU THINK MEN WHO FUCK OTHER MEN CAN'T FIGHT? WATCH THIS. grrrrrrr.

it is now your mission to find out this word. though it occurs to me, if raindissolved or oimizza are reading this right now, they both were classics majors, maybe they can tell us. *edits post* :3

It'd be brilliant. They'd just be 'what. WHY DO YOU EVEN CARE, MORONS' because seriously.

clearly, we must discover this word. THIS IS NEED TO KNOW MATERIAL.

I believe the words IDIOT & MORON are derived directly from ancient greek (seriously).

Let us remember the ancients were in many way far more advanced - for example they discovered that gays are the fucking fiercest fighters (in all senses of those words): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_Band_of_Thebes

this is so very true. i mean also, i gotta say, how do they not connect the dots that they'll probably get more work out of guys whose lovers are standing next to them when the swords come out, vs guys who have a wife and kids back home going COME HOME SOON KTHX. fools.

Here is an Ancient Greek word for you:

Annoying: ἐπαχθής (epachthês)

I was going to give you "idiot," but "idiot" in Greek means a private citizen, someone who doesn't take part in the politics of the city-state. Which, yes, means stupid and self-centered, but it means that because they thought people who didn't enter public/political life were being self-centered and too stupid to reason properly. So sayeth the interwebs.

ahh brilliance. both parts, actually; it's so interesting to see the etymology of words that way, what was originally meant by them and how they're used now. at reunion i was actually geeking with one of my fellow old english nerds about how much i miss access to the OED online since graduation-- it's never enough for me to know the definition of the word today, i want to know what it meant when it entered the language and how it's changed since.
