I've discovered Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab.  I blame loree!  I unpacked my new imps yesterday. (tiny sample vials of perfume.)  I've started out just sniffing them in the bottle.  Today I tried out Les Infortunes De La Vertu to see how it smelled ON ME.  Apparently these are perfumes that change quite a bit as they react with your body chemistry.  There ( Read more... )

For what it's worth, pretty much ALL perfumes react VERY differently with different body chemistry. Which is why it can be really REALLY difficult buying scents as a gift. But the process of finding the right scents can be very fun.

That one smelled kind of soapy on me at first and then settled down to warm, ambery and just a bit floral. It turned out more subtle than overwhelming.

Mata Hari was all cloying roses and a whiff of nescafe and turned into just JASMINE

Whip was nice, the roses were not overwhelming or cloying and the leather was subtle. It didn't change that much.

Peitho was very jasmine to start (but in a good way) and ended up warm soft muskey vanilla with a bit of jasmine.

I'm scared to try Siren it's pretty intense jasmine/ginger in the bottle. The reviews on line for this one are interesting. IT apparently changes A LOT from the bottle to skin.

I think I'm putting off Highwayman and Grog.

A lot of their scents are more non-gender specific. They have a list on the website of ones that contain scents that are more traditionally part of men's colognes. (Leather, vetiver, ...)
