Twenty-Eight.

My birthday is always a complicated time for me. I do not like these rather arbitrary checkpoints, times when we are conditioned to look back and judge our own progress. As if my life on May 30th, 2010 can be related to my life on May 30, 2009 in neat list form:

Beth is

You inspire me.
The tremendous courage you have to LIVE, to go forward and accept that you are blind to the outcome, but to continue to go forward...
No direction may ultimately be the correct direction to go.
Simply living, experiencing...is inspiring, and something I can believe in.

Thank you.

Hear hear. My 28th is July 15th. I had a palm reading a couple of years ago that intimated all my "big things" would happen around 35+. That sounds about right to me, too ( ... )

As someone approaching 54, I look back on 28 with much nostalgia. At 28, I married someone I'm still married to, though the two now-grown sons who add so much humor and joy to my life were not yet even glimmers of thought. At 28, I had two-thirds of my life ahead of me (or so I thought) and was going to accomplish great things. At almost-54, with perhaps a third of my life still to live, I have accomplished good things and do still dream of great ones, though they are different now than they were. Your way from 28 to 54 will be your own, though I would hedge a bit it will be an adventurous one with a bump or three thrown in to keep you humble. It can be a hell of a ride if you let it. Happy Birthday!

28 is a perfect number, in the mathematical sense. Squeeze whatever meaning you can out of that and have a wonderful year forging paths and doing your own cartography.
