Teal'c, in voice-over:  "Previously, on Stargate SG-1 . . . "

Part One is here.

Part Two is here.

X Marks the Spot

Part Three: In For a Penny

The entrance to the underground maze yawned in front of Teal’c and MacGyver, a toothless black mouth.

“The generator - the lights - ” Mac gestured with his right hand; Teal’c was holding him up by the left.

Wonderful! Although I admit that Jack wasn't the only one whose eyes were glazing over at the rapid information shared by Sam and Mac ;)

I loved Mac giving himself away knowing military sign language.

And I might add, that this is a rather inventive whumping you have at the end, with those dishes they have to take out. LOL about the line of Jack hitting the dirt first, before it could hit him ;)

Although I couldn't help being reminded of old Quatermain movies by the shaking ground - you know, that in the end, the temple always collapses. MacGyver also had one or two of those.

Yup -- the collapsing temple is a stock MacGyver trope, along with the Lady Scientist of the Week. At least I figured I could actually have a solid reason, other than "gee, somebody triggered a booby-trap, and isn't it convenient having earthquakes on tap, even in a tectonically stable environment?" Cyprus, of course, has small quakes all the time.

And I whumped Mac, Jack, and Daniel, so everyone should have something to make them happy.

Yeah, but every writer can have their people stabbed or shot, but this uncomfortable feeling or even sizzling metal in the clothes with the disks is something original.

True -- Liz certainly set me up with some fine and unique whumpage options there! She was quite gleeful about the notion that the metal eyelets in boots would start arcing. Poor Jack.

...The trouble with your stories is that there's so much to comment on. And then I get distracted with easier-to-comment things and wind up not telling you how awesome they are at all. ;-)

(Dang, I swear I had "fergit space advenchur" uploaded... all this shuffling icons to make room for DS9 and the Brig has me confuseled.)

Well, on LJ (unlike ff.net), you're not limited to a single response. You can continue to post an item or two at a time for as long as you please, and I'll simply soak up the glee and feel inclined to write more with each comment . . .

Okay, so I came here and read this directly from Dr. Zahi Hawass' blog here, where his entries for March 6th and 7th talk about the damage that is being done to the antiquities around Egypt, and the reasons behind his March 6th resignation.

So as I read this, all I could think was "Oooh, some Cypriot Antiquities Minister/Director is going to be really pissy about what happened to his precious site! Some scientists will never be able to excavate in Cyprus (and possibly most neighboring countries) ever again ( ... )

The science is due to the blessed genius of my technical consultant, my sister Liz. She's amazing. You can look forward to my quizzing you with more questions about the archeological aftermath, BTW . . . *g*

And yes. Ares and Hephaestus. Isn't it an amazing coincidence that Mac just happened to have sustained a serious leg injury immediately before that? Anyone would think the writer had been planning it all along!

One of my own Big Areas is mythology. For all my love of Stargate, I still cringe at some of the really bad howlers the writers made in that area (their take on Norse mythology hurt badly the first time around, but now it's funny). It was truly gleeful getting the chance to show what you can really do with the myths!

I have only been through one moderately significant quake myself, and it was the most terrifying 90 seconds of my life (so far). I didn't think, at the time, that it was going to be valuable background! I drew on that a lot when I wrote Aftershocks, of course.
