Cue Teal'c's voice:  " Last week, on Stargate SG-1 . . . "

X Marks the Spot

Part Two:  Penny Wise

Having Lacie’s dig invaded by mystery men with military backup didn’t seem like a great way to start the morning. Based on past experience, that kinda thing usually seems to end with me getting locked up, or beaten up, or arrested, or worse. I never ( Read more... )

Yeah, I got that editing of your comment that said that this was going to end up being three parts instead of two.

First reaction:
I was wondering how she was going to wind all that up in just one more part, unless that one part was a looooong part.

Second reaction:
Ooooh goody! More for meeeeee!

Third reaction:
I should reply and say that, but I really need to get to bed or I will be totally useless tomorrow, and totally useless and driving kids around in winter driving conditions might not end well.

I continue to love this, and appreciate the way all the characters really are completely themselves.

But my favorite part? The way you brought in the logical solution to Mac-the-vegetarian-who-eats-lamb. I'm a total sucker for little canon clean-up details like this!

*sits back impatiently to await Part 3 eagerly, with a tiny, greedy glimmer of hope that it may even stretch to Part 4*

Edited to fix a spacing problem that maintained a pattern. Could I be any more anal?

Ah, yes, the eternal debate over Mac's diet, which never made sense to me, possibly because the California Health Nut was such a well-known species when I was growing up that it would never have occurred to me that there could be any question. Mac was a pragmatist, after all, and his character had seven years plus in which to go through changes -- you know, rather the way real people do.

In Phoenix Rising, I got to play around with images of Mac in transition, which was absolutely wonderful.

I really had thought it would only be two parts, but I've made that kind of mistake before!

Oh! The story is picking up pace! And at least I was totally surprised by another TBC ;)

It is really nice to see those two series together. And to see SG-1 through Mac's eyes. The things he would notice about everyone. He's a sharp guy, after all. It is also nice to see the early SG-1.

And Jack gave Mac the scar on the chin? Nice idea ;)

Your Teal'c is especially nice. I hope your partner approves. You are right, it often is hard to write him well, and many people keep him mostly in the background. I especially loved this sentence: Teal’c didn’t answer, in that very eloquent way Teal’c had of not answering because he was waiting for you to finish, even though you thought you had. The usual result of that non-answering was that you ended up saying more than you’d planned.

Well, I hope Mac will get some answers in the end. He already has seen too much that could be explained with deep space telemetry anyway.

Yes, the deep-space-telemetry story falls apart as soon as you get someone in the picture who actually knows what deep space telemetry is!

I hadn't even noticed the chin scar myself until recently; I was capping The Mountain of Youth, and there's a very tight close-up from the POV of a person who's a good deal shorter than Mac. The chin scar is quite noticeable. Jack has the scar on his left eyebrow, of course, but I can't blame that one on Mac.

I found myself becoming very interested in the early years of the SG-1 team -- all the small slow steps they had to make as they learned about the Goa'uld, as well as each other. My partner and I have started rewatching the show from the beginning (the first time through, for her).
