I look forward to seeing the pictures! I can sew, having been taught in the Home Ec class I took over my strenuous objections (I wanted to take shop, but they would not let me because I was a girl, even though I pointed out that legally, they could not discriminate like that, and they enforced that policy until some 20 years later some kid came along and said the same thing, this time with a lawyer in tow), but I would not dare sew a wedding dress, although I've made adoption dresses for two of my girls, and a graduation dress for Eldest Daughter. Hats off to you! I have never learned to love sewing, and only do it for those I love.
I never loved sewing until I fell in love with costuming . . . and ended up doing it professionally for 15 years. The only things I don't sew are swimwear and bras (although I've done them when I really had to).
In high school, I wanted to take auto shop! It was already full. *pouts*
Wood shop and metal shop and drafting, too, for that matter.
And I didn't learn to sew a stitch until three years ago, when I got into costuming, too. Turns out, it's not so much different that shop. Just different materials. Funny, that.
I can't tell you how happy I am for you that this becomes reality.
John Barrowman told us the story about his impromptu wedding, where they just went with flipflops and shorts - they had thought they only need to do the paperwork and come back another time but were told no, they can do it right there and then.
And they were the youngest couple there, all the others were in their Eighties. They all witnessed for each other and it was a very emotional ceremony, as they all said they thought they would never ever be able to do this one day.
(I'd be more verbal, but I have no brain. I just finished an English placement test at community college -- which, incidentally, included an essay on "The Person I Admire Most". GUESS WHO I WROTE ABOUT. :D *smishes you lots*)
Yup, srsly! :D They had me choose between prompts for "Making the World a Better Place" or "The Person I Admire Most", and being a cynical youngster who wouldn't be surprised if we're all in the express-line handbasket, I didn't see myself writing a convincing essay about the former. ;P So I wrote about "my honorary foster-mother, Beth MacAnderson".
(I made up the surname from obvious sources because my - probably off-kilter in this case - Internet security brain-filter didn't like to use your real name and "Lolmac" just does not sound like a surname. *g*)
I understand why they don't give back copies of the essays afterward, but I wish I could show you. It was very flattering. ^_^

I'm still a lot worse off with solid, rigid materials than I am with flexible ones. You can't really ease fullness in metal or stone.

Getting the marriage license application notarized was unique, and REALLY made the reality sink in.

Yes. That's exactly what it is. I never expected this to be possible in my lifetime.
