Dear Sherlock fandom,

Can we please please PLEASE stop trying to diagnose Sherlock now? It was interesting at first, but the back-and-forth squabbling and anecdata are getting very wearing. HIS DISORDER IS HE'S SHERLOCK HOLMES, OKAY.

Kisses,
Bethan

deal with my spam, why yes i do rant a lot, sherlock is actually literally on crack, don't call me shirley

I'd mind less, but this is the discussion we have EVERY TIME there is a new version of Sherlock Holmes, and it just rumbles on and on and on and on... In fact, I'm pretty sure the original canon's fandom is still having debates about this.

He has a canon diagnosis! "High functioning sociopath" = layperson term for Antisocial Personality Disorder. THERE I SOLVED IT THE END.

I think that's part of the problem, though. He claims a diagnosis that actually doesn't exist. So now we all get to interpret it as a layperson term for whatever the hell we want.

Which I actually like, because I am fond of leeway.

You mean the fact that "sociopath" doesn't mean a damn thing clinically? Because that is very true. I have kind of come to dislike the word for that very reason. I'll use it as shorthand so people know what I'm talking about, but I won't like it. XD

That actually sounds like a fascinating discussion, in moderation and when all parties involve accept that there's not ever going to be an actual clear answer.

I love talking about interpreting Holmes through the lenses of various disorders! But not in an exclusionary "I'm right you're wrong I'm smart you're dumb I'm big you're little and there's nothing you can do about it" context.

Yes I just quoted the Matilda movie. Yes I am now desperately trying to chase all thought of a crossover out of my head. (IT WOULD BE GOLD THOUGH.)
