Tidying Up.

I've decided to let my website go when it comes up for renewal this year. Sorry to anybody who has bookmarked stuff there but I think it's time to face the fact that my days of being able to write even a few pieces a year have gone. An archive is the place for my stuff now ( Read more... )

I am very glad you're archiving. I understand your feelings about changing as a writer and wondering if you should leave things as they are. From a readers perspective, let me shout out a resounding YES. I've had it happen to me more than once that I comment on an older story for some author (and once I was telling an author that an older story was absolutely one of my favorites in Due South, and it was my go to comfort story, so not just some random, oh, how nice comment), only to have the author come back and say, OH, that old dumb thing that I hate! And proceed to make me feel patronized, belittled and insulted for daring to LIKE their work. I don't mind an occasional comment from someone about having grown and changed, but the fashion a few years ago to denounce one's older work, and to be insulting to one's readers didn't help ANYONE. Those older stories are always going to be a foundation upon which a LOT of people fell in love with a fandom ( ... )

Oh, don't feel embarrassed or belittled! On another group, it became a standing joke that so many of us liked a story Pepe was embarrassed about because she thought the quality was poor or something (never really got to the bottom of why she didn't like it very much). So much so that, when she retired, we opened another group whose title was taken from that story! So enjoy liking whatever you like. The author's opinion is not the only one that counts!

Hey Vsee! Thank you for your comment - it made me think. I guess that writing is such a very personal thing - it's like sharing a part of yourself with everyone each time you post. Maybe that's why some authors are a little sensitive about their older works - because they feel that they're not being seen at their best. *shrugs*

Anyhow, thank you for the comment, my dear. And I will have to look into archiving the covers - I had some gorgeous ones gifted to me over the years and it would be a shame not to share them. I believe they are all still linked here on LJ.

Thank you for archiving, and for not cherry picking, and for the fair warning of things moving. I hope you'll be able to write more, soon!

Hey Bertle

Sorry to hear you're taking the site down, but I'm glad you're not going to be one of the ones who has made their work inaccessible to those who love it (although I undersand why some do). Must download more of them though in case you change your mind!

Love

Hey Hon! It's always a horrible feeling when a story you've loved is gone when you go to look for it, but things happen, you know? And on AO3 they have this nifty orphan work option in case I do ever change my mind.

Berty, love, Finding The Words was the first story in due South that I fell in love with. So while I'm sad to see Point of Origin go, I'm very happy to know that all of my faves will still be available at AO3. *hugs you so tight*

Aka!!!! *encircles you with hearts*

Thank you for your sweet words. I really love AO3 - it's the very next best thing to having your own site, they do such a great job.

Lovely to hear from you, my dear. Hope you are well.
