I find it very weird that 2006 is almost over. I know that every year we say that it went by "so fast" and all, but this year really really did. I feel like it was just weeks, maybe months, ago that I was sitting on the couch, hugging Copper and swearing that I'd take better care of myself in 2006. Anyway, I've posted this one every year since I've had my livejournal, so yay for that. Here we are...
2003 2004 2005 001. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before? bought my own TV, waited tables, went to Immorality, attempted NaNoWriMo, went on a real commercial diet plan, went to the opera, went to tapings of TV shows
002. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? My main resolution was to take better care of myself- physically, emotionally, etc. I had a few slip-ups, but I do think there has been an improvement. I'll make more resolutions, probably the day before New Year's or something.
003. Did anyone close to you give birth? no
004. Did anyone close to you die? no *knock knock*
005. What countries did you visit? none
006. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006? more discipline/focus, tickets to Champions on Ice and/or Skate America,
007. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory?
December 10- the day I met Evan in person :)
December 31- because I always remember New Year's Eve
(just as last year- there are a lot more days that I'll always remember, but I'm not sure if the specific dates will always stay except for those two)
008. What was your biggest achievement of the year? probably losing weight- even if I've gained a few pounds back, I've definitely come a long way from last year.
009. What was your biggest failure? letting my academic life get out of control again
010. Did you suffer illness or injury? I had a cold at some point
011. What was the best thing you bought? my TV and VCR, ticket to Marshall's, Weight Watchers membership, and Proactiv
012. Whose behaviour merited celebration? Evan's behavior at the Olympics- dare I say the word "courage." Molly and Dave for driving me to Hartford that one night. Bryan for coming to the second American Idol concert with me and running after the busses. Rhianna for reconnecting and scheming with me on what I'm sure is only the beginning of a great four years and more. My parents and all of my friends as always, just for being the amazing people that they are. :)
013. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed? my own at times. and other people just for little things, nothing huge
014. Where did most of your money go? honestly, it's probably a tie between books and Evan-related things. Between all the gifts and the ticket/travel to Marshall's, the kid ate my bank account this year. :P
015. What did you get really, really, really excited about? the Olympics, semesters being over, living next door to Amalia, the American Idol tour, and of course, meeting Rhianna and seeing Evan live
016. What song/album will always remind you of 2006? "Life Less Ordinary" by Carbon Leaf. "White Houses" by Vanessa Carlton was my summer for the most part. "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield. "A Minor Incident" by Badly Drawn Boy. "Hemorrhage" by Fuel. "When You Were Young" by the Killers. "Time to Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli. The toreador theme from Carmen (as well as a few other sections of it).
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? about the same...maybe a little happier. 2006 was overall better than 2005, unfortunately it had a little bit of a downard slant towards the end, but I think overall I'm a little happier.
ii. thinner or fatter? thinner :)
iii. richer or poorer? about the same
018. What do you wish you'd done more of? studying, reading, going to class
019. What do you wish you'd done less of? procrastinating
020. How will you be spending Christmas? I spent a relaxing day at home with my parents, brother, and cat.
022. Did you fall in love in 2006? I did not.
023. How many one night stands in this last year? none
024. What was your favourite TV programme? Overall, taking the entire year into consideration, I'd probably say American Idol, with honorable mentions to Lost and The Office.
025. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? no
026. What was the best book you read? I didn't read as much as I should have this year. I did read a chunk of books, but none of them stick out as being the best. I'm re-reading She's Come Undone right now, and that's one of my favorite books of all time, so I'll say that.
027. What was your greatest musical discovery? hmm... Anna Nalick, Chris Daughtry (shut up :P), and I realized that I kind of really like Nightwish.
028. What did you want and get? a TV and VCR, a chance to see Evan skate live and meet him (and talk to him on the phone), clearer skin, a new set of bedding, for Constantine to sign my picture with him from summer '05, Amalia for a next door neighbor, a fun new lamp, a nice winter coat
029. What did you want and not get? an Irish flute, to win COI tickets, a chance to meet Chris and Ace, a certain person over the summer, vastly improved grades, a picture with Evan
030. What was your favourite film of this year? I might have to say The Prestige.
031. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 20. Not much happened on my birthday itself, but that weekend, my friends and I had Indian food and watched The Office, and they surprised me with cupcakes. :)
032. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? probably being able to keep up with school better.
033. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2006? comfy
034. What kept you sane? my friends, music, and my obsessions <---- same answer as 2004 and 2005, and it definitely still applies.
035. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? Evan Lysacek, with runners-up Ace Young and Chris Daughtry
036. What political issue stirred you the most? I actually was not very political this year. *hides*
037. Who did you miss? as always- Smith people while at home, and home people while at Smith.
038. Who was the best new person you met?
-Kristen- she became a close friend in a short amount of time, and it's hard to believe I just met her this year.
-Rhianna- Though I generally consider summer 2004 as when we met and therefore she isn't technically a "new person," I did meet Rhianna in person for the first time this year, and it was fabulous, so she is on the list as well. :)
-Evan was pretty rad, too.
039. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006. Problems generally don't fix themselves. And a little courage will get you through anything. ;)
040. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year?
"You're having a hard time lately, you don't feel so good
You've got a bad reputation in your neighborhood
It's alright, it's alright, sometimes that's what it takes
You're only human, you're allowed to make your share of mistakes
You better believe there will be times in your life
When you'll be feeling like a stumbling fool
So take it from me, you'll learn more from your accidents
Than anything that you could ever learn at school
Don't forget your second wind
Sooner or later, you'll get your second wind" -Billy Joel
