September 2013 Ipsy Bag review

Sep 20, 2013 15:53

I've been Ipsified! I've been Instagramming (@shevacarbonell) and tweeting (@berrymix) about my first Ipsy Bag because I'm super, super excited about it. The Beauty Bag subscription is taking over the beauty world and of course I had to get in on it! I chose Ipsy because it's cheap (haha!) and there are a lot of good reviews about it. Most people like what they get in bag so I thought it would be a good beauty box to try. Here's what's arrived in my first Ipsy Bag:

Ok, before I talk about the stuff inside maybe I should talk about how this baby got here all the way from the US. It's very easy actually! I went to the Ipsy site, signed up, answered a looong survey (which is actually necessary as the results will determine what kind of product will be sent to you), subscribed to a monthly beauty bag and gave my credit card info and shipping address. Now, they don't ship to the Philippines. So what I did is I ship using Johnny Air. This is where the additional cost comes in. The bag is only around USD 10 but I paid around USD 20 for the shipping. All in all, I really like the experience though and I've already signed up for the October bag.

I got five products in my bag: Victoria Jackson Taupe Eyebrow Pencil, Starlooks Obsidian Kohl, Elizabeth Mott It's so Big volumizing mascara, NYX single eyeshadow in Hollywood and Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm. The only sample-sized one I got is the mascara and the rest are all full sized. The bag it came with is really cute but nothing special. Honestly, I don't like the black lace on blue satin style and it doesn't translate to Classic Beauty which is the theme for this month. If they went with a classic black makeup bag, that would have been better. But that's just me. Of all the stuff I got, my favorites are the eyebrow pencil and eyeliner. The tinted lip balm and eyeshadow are just ok but the mascara is a complete miss.

For a review of the individual products and FOTD, please click here:

Victoria Jackson Taupe Eyebrow Pencil: I like this but it's super cream it broke when I got it! I wind it up all the way to see how much product is in the pencil and it broke before I got to the end. It's still usable though and it's a good match with my brow color. I brush it with a spoolie to blend.

Starlooks Obsidian Kohl eyeliner: My second favorite! It's not the most long lasting eyeliner but it's very black and creamy. No tugging when I apply it! I apply have to reapply it often though and also watch out for raccoon eyes as it has tendency to transfer.

Elizabeth Mott It's so Big volumizing mascara: My least favorite. It didn't volumized at all! It made my eyelashes look spidery and weird. It also didn't hold the curl. A complete miss for me.

NYX single eyeshadow in Hollywood: This is not my fave but I can work with it. I used it as a lid color but it's not very pigmented. It will probably work better as a highlight color for inner corners and under the brows. It's a sheer white color with lots of shimmer. There's also a lot of fall out because of the shimmer.

Cailyn Tinted lip balm: I like that this is a very very pigmented lip product but is it a lip balm? I don't think so. I would classify it as a stain. It's very matte and not very hydrating (though it also didn't dry up my lips) so I don't think it's a lip balm. It's a cherry red lip stain that works well with all of the products that I got.

Swatches of all the products (from left): NYX eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, eyebrow pencil, tinted lip balm

And here's the look that I was able to create. Products used: Dr Jart BB cream, Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, Victoria Jackson eyebrow pencil, NYX single eyeshadow in Hollywood for the lids and matte gray color from the NYX Nude on Nude palette for the crease, Starlooks eyeliner, Elizabeth Mott mascara, Elf cream blush and Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm.

Overall, I'm happy with the products that I got and I look forward to my next bag!
