Not doing it alone.

Nov 30, 2005 10:10

Many lives had been plagued by the feeling of not being able to be good enough, not finding rest or comfort or a way out. You know the point: you cannot do it alone. Going though life alone and for oneself is not living. That is one of the central teachings of Christianity. The Bible says, in Matthew 16:25-27 (KJV), “For whosoever will save his ( Read more... )

"Being Christian does not mean being “closed-minded” in the negative connotation of the phrase. Rather, it means being “closed-minded” to all but God’s Word (The Bible), and the Word made flesh (Jesus ( ... )

Quick reply until I have more time later in the day:
The entry was originally a letter I sent to my mom; I just changed around bits to apply to a more general audience.
Thanks for pointing that out, I guess I need some more explanation on that particular paragraph.
Kudos to you for actually looking into Christianity as opposed to turning it away right off the bat.
Thank you for accepting my beliefs, and I give you the same courtesy.
I'll never be one of those "I can't hang out with you or talk to you or like you because you're not Christian", Christians. (so don't worry)
Anyway, I'll get back to you on this: "This sentence sort of nullifies your point to me, your telling me that being christian mean being enclosed only to the word of the bible and jesus in that sentence, but you say your not closed minded ( ... )

Christianity does not mean being closed minded in anyway, and those who are Christians and also closed minded usually end up being the ones who are over zealous, self-righteous, and think they are above others because of their salvation. This is unfortunate for the rest of the Christian community because these people end up being the stereotype of all Christians ( ... )

"Personally, I have read a lot about other religions. I have done thorough research to understand what they are about and also why they are wrong..."

I'm curious to what made those other beliefs right or wrong, rather than just not what you agree with or just what you think is wrong.

I don't think that all christians, or anyone who really believes in anything is closed minded either. Being close minded and strongly believing in something are two different things.

I must concur with you on your first and last statements, along with pretty much everything else you said. But you articulated my feelings with those two very well.

Not everything is black or white, right or wrong. The comment about the close-minded hurt me, so did Mindy's about why the other religions were "wrong."

As a Catholic, people give us a lot of shit about how we are closed minded. The pope *John Paul* said that it isn't wrong at all to be other religions. It's not sending you to hell or making anyone better or worse. It's not putting Christians *which Catholics are* higher than anyone else.

I think you can still believe in God, and not Jesus. There is nothing wrong with that, sorry. And if you think it is, and you are "close minded" to ANYTHING. YOU are wrong, and YOU need to come to terms with that.

How in God's name could my comment hurt you? How could this personal letter to Becca's mother have in any way hurt you ( ... )

Oh, PS Mindy, I didn't say that she was attacking me, I was stating MY opinion, not saying she was wrong, dumbass. I didn't attack you, either. And Frankly Mindy, I am very surprised you actually care, because aren't you right about everything? Don't you know that everything you say is right, and if you influence someone elses opinion they are right, but everyone else is wrong? Don't you see my point. IT'S NOT WRONG TO HAVE OTHER BELIEFS, IT'S WRONG OF YOU TO SAY THEY ARE. Read what I'm saying, genius, maybe you'll catch it if you open your fucking eyes.

End.

Wow, glad to know we can act maturely.

How is it wrong to say that I disagree with someone's viewpoint? Is that not what everyone has done with Becca?

I care because of what you (and everyone else) were saying to Becca, and because I think many things were misunderstood with what she wrote.

I am glad that you value our friendship enough to resort to name calling. You can have a debate without getting at each other's throats. Everyone disagrees on things at some point, and shouldn't we be able to argue without causing such problems?

And "YOU" in my first comment, was NOT directed towards Becca. If it was, I would have said "Becca". "YOU" is anyone who says other views and beliefs are wrong. That includes EVERYONE. Pay attention.
