Any vampire book suggestion?

As I mentioned before, I am buying books for the high school school library. We are talking to ESL students from beginners to perfectly bilingual and I want to focus on intermediate level. I have ordered around 40 books so far  but none with vampires. When i ask students what would they like to find in ESL books, I get VAMPIRES! Gee, I cannot stand ( Read more... )

I read the first of a series in the summer, Marked, by P.C. Cast and Kristen Cast. (Sorry if the link's funny - on my mobile!)

It's a collaboration between a mother and daughter, set in an alternative universe, where vampirism is caused by a genetic mutation. Teenagers on the cusp of the change are marked by seekers, then have to go to live at vampire boarding schools, because if they're not around adult vampires, they will die. Some of them will die anyway - not everybody will be able to handle the physical changes, even though the school places quite a strong emphasis on physical health.

The book draws on Wicca and Native American mythology; apparently later ones draw on other myths too...

The writing style was pitched at teens, and if I remember rightly it was first person narrative, and a bit like being around a hyper, bubbly teen in places, but the ideas were interesting and complex, and the book and characters got under my skin.

Apparently later ones do feature sex, but no idea how graphically.

I bet they'd like The Hunger Games. It isn't a vampire book, but it's really good and intended for teens so it's appropriate.

But as far as vampire books go, I've only read the Sookie Stackhouse books and there's probably way too much sex in them. I've seen another teen vampire series at Target, I'll look up the name and get back to you. I haven't read it so I don't know what it's like.
