I'm feeling good! I just got an audition with Do Jump! Extremely Physical Theater. I'm shocked to say, I got an audition simply from a phone call. About a month ago,
the_drifter emailed me a craigslist posting about auditions for Do Jump! This was part of what sparked my thinking to get off my ass and leave Rosemont. I'm happy to say that even after I procrastinated this long, they are still auditioning. I'm almost a bit incredulous that I got an audition just by calling and talking to someone. Their posting says "Performer must have extensive training in at least three of the following four areas: gymnastics, dance, physical theater and aerial work." Hmm. I have some dance training, and some experience with physical theater. I can do back hand springs and aerial cartwheels, but really, I have no gymnastics training. Aerial work? I learned trapeze at Club Med for a few days. So really, I don't meet their extensive training in three areas. I have talent, but only moderate skill (if even that). If I were a director, I wouldn't hire me as a professional dancer. Still, I'm gonna give it a shot. I have plenty of performance experience if I include music too. I'd have performance experience with ballet, modern, fire poi, theater dance, acting, opera, piano, voice, etc. Who knows, maybe they'll be able to see past my inexperience to the fire inside. I've got my fingers crossed. If I got this job, she said it evens out to be about full time. Rehearsals are weekdays 10-2, with obviously more time during tech and such.
I'm also thinking a lot about teaching piano and/or voice lessons. It is sounding really appealing to me right now. I think I can be a really good teacher. I remember as far back as elementary school thinking "if I were a teacher, I'd do it like this," or "if you just said it like this she'd understand!" And I think I'm ready to go back to artistic things. I've missed it. I found listings for a few music school that are hiring, and I'm going to apply. This could also dovetail nicely with Do Jump! in terms of free hours on weekdays.
