Analogue London - wasn't shot? Was discharged from the army? This is the one that's most confusing to me. Living with Sherlock.
Digital London - was shot, discharged, living with Derek.
Analogue Afghanistan - wasn't shot, still in army (obvs.)
Digital Essex or wherever - never joined army, wasn't shot.
Except, he does rehab twice. So he was shot in one of the Analogue realities. Are the Londons so similar? I don't understand *weeps*
But aside from origin confusion, I'm having a fairly easy time following this. It's awesome! I'm excited for the next bit! And the even more complicated bits later.

You've got absolutely everything except for Analogue London. In hindsight, yes, I can see where the confusion set in. The reason why so little of the action in Analogue London is specified is that it's the show. The missing parts are all the TV show. Despite the AU label, the canon also happens. It's just buttressed by everything else. John was shot in two timelines and was brought back to London for both of them. Digital and Analogue Londons both have the shoulder scar and, initially, the psychosomatic limp - which, conveniently enough, Sherlock can cure both of.
Are the Londons so similar? In fact, the Londons are identical until John makes a change. All the realities are, save for where John is involved. For instance, when Harry rings John up in Chelmsford, he can more or less bet on her calling him on the same calendar day at the same time in both Londons ( ... )

That's where I was confused. Thank you very much for the extremely thorough clarification.
This is a fantastic story, it's totally worth a tiny little bit of confusion.

John's reaction to Sherlock's death in the Essex universe is nicely done. You can tell what a powerful impact Sherlock's had on John by his behavior in Essex and in digital and analogue London. And ouch, the googling of Sherlock, the realization that what's left behind does no justice to his humanity.
Rachel's appearance rather reminds me of someone. A coincidence?
I like John's crack about "my brother". Reminds me of his dry comments to Mycroft in ASiP.
Can't wait to continue reading this story!
