Comic Book People:

Am I the only person who's stopped reading POWERS and DMZ because they've really been boring the piss out of me?

I mean, yeah, I know that COUNTDOWN sucks ass and readership drops with EVERY WEEKLY ISSUE, but what about these "big name" comics?

More comic stuff later.

b

comic, boring my piss, dmz, countdown, powers, comic books

Read the first couple of trades of DMZ, then bail. It starts to tread water pretty hard...

And, apparently the search for Ray Palmer is such a thrilling epic it needs its own separate comic.

Ray Palmer? Jeez, could we search for someone even duller? Dick Cavett, maybe?

Still hoping DMZ gets good again. Kinda interested in Army@Love and Faker.

JSA is pretty to look at, and has addle-pated old-school Starman from the 30th Century in it, pulling Kingdom Come Superman out of a black hole he made all by himself.

I KNOW! Ray Palmer, yes, he was scarred after IDENTITY CRISIS, but...

I DON'T CARE!!!

Army @ Love had me interested, but not enough to keep buying.

JSA has been, quite possibly, the most consistent book of the past seven years. The only time it faded was the very brief period where Geoff Johns wasn't writing it.

Sadly - I never got into Powers because it came out at a time when I wasn't able to start new things.

Still following DMZ myself, as is Leslie. And I still like it. I admit that it's gotten slower lately, but I don't think it's become stale yet.

I wouldn't touch Countdown if you paid me.

Powers was dead fucking brilliant for YEARS.

It's just that recently it's felt...dunno, like Bendis has had so much else on his plate that he's neglecting one of his first big titles.

I started COUNTDOWN, but...wow.
It's like 52, but without any talent involved.

I never heard anything but good about Powers. Always felt bad that I never really had the chance to get into it, and often paged through it just because it was so pretty.

I've never really been behind DC. That universe, I dunno, never sang to me.
Maybe the characters are too iconic or something, but it just never quite seems to breath.
Except Batman.

Forget DMZ! kali921 September 14 2007, 00:50:24 UTC
No, you are NOT the only one. DMZ started out brilliantly, Powers started off as Bendis being good, and then...

...Well, Astro City is where it's at, man.

Seriously. District X was a good read, but Powers? Not anymore.

Countdown sucked from the very beginning.

Look, you HAVE to read Silver Surfer: Requiem! It's EVERYTHING the medium can be, and more.

Look, you told me to read SS:R and I did.

Yeah, I cried.

I cry a lot, though, so...

Oh shit that was some beautiful stuff.

So glad to read this post. I thought there was somehting wrong with me when I had to cancel getting DMZ in my box at the comic shop a few months back. Honstly, it went from one of my fave series, to something where I couldn't think of one interesting thing that had happened in the previous 10 issues. It's just RE-TREAD. He's established a mood, a setting, and seems totally happy with that. There is none of the innovation of the earlier issues, and none of the excitement.

I don't read POWERS, but another comic that I had to stop buying recently for the same reasons as DMZ is ELEPHANTMEN.

Elephantmen moved to a monthly, right? If I'm not mistaken, it had previously been a "when I write an issue" book. Goes to show what serializing something can do to creativity. I've read through the first few issues and they were really great... to hear that it's getting pappy is just disappointing.

We're few and far between, and you NAILED why DMZ is boring me: it's treading water. Nothing is happening and the characters aren't developing at all.

Powers was hardcore good for a long time. Indeed, I can heartily recommend the first...dunno, half-a-dozen whatever trades.
