Plus ca change in another way, alas

Unfortunately I still have not managed to secure a new job, although I remain perpetually hopeful like a Dickens chara (between bouts of utter despair), and I had not wanted to do this again, from equal parts pride, and the knowledge of how bad the economic situation is everywhere and how much direr the straits of many are than mine. But the end of ( Read more... )

I've forwarded some monies to you that came to me to be divided between us. :)

The village that comprises LJ is an amazing place, it is. So many lovely people come out of the woodwork to help relative strangers.

BTW, batten down the hatches over there on the w. side. They're predicting 3 inches of snow and MORE freezing rain, starting tonight. We refilled the bathtub with water, just in case. I just want to be able to chainsaw down those damn trees before all the snow, but our neighbor (Dougie) who was going to lend us one isn't home. Any chance you have a line on a chainsaw to borrow this afternoon?

I don't know anyone personally who has a chainsaw any more, but I did remember in the area and checked - Taylor Rental down on Gold Street has some back in stock now, they charge $38 and there's a $10 refundable chain deposit, here's their phone number: (603) 627-4151‎

(I thought there was one on Mast Road, too, that rented Husquvarnas, down by D'Angelos but I can't remember the name and I'm not having any luck googling them.)

Since I'm working in December for the first time in 2 or 3 years, I sent you a small gift. You've provided me *at least* as much enjoyment as a night out at the movies, and for a longer period of time.

I came into a bit of money for Christmas, and I will send some along.

You didn't get back to me about mittens and such - are you interested?

Your straits are dire enough. Hopefully, I'll be able to send a little more next week.
