Loki tried telling himself that he hadn't chosen this particular job for a reason. Texas was full of sinners, and it wasn't like he didn't have to go there a lot anyway. But he could feel her close ( Read more... )

Pestilence hated being indoors, and she despised being alone. This new generation, spending their hours tucked indoors on their computers, never went out and experienced life - and all the VD it could bring them.

Therefore, as soon as she could stand, she had started roaming the street, occasionally able to grab someone sleeve and pass on something good. Still, she was ashamed to be seen out, so tended towards the twilight hours; a Horseman of the Apocalypse should not look this fragile.

She shifted her right arm in its sling and adjusted her sunglasses to better cover her black eyes, her cream dress deliberately loose enough to cover the bandages. It was a balmy thirty-four degrees and stormy and she was going to crawl through the streets if she had to.

As she passed an ordinary alley, she caught a flash of armour and grinned - oh, she'd know that sword anywhere. "Someone need punishing, feathers?"

His hands on her waist should not feel so good, and she shouldn't feel like a complete virgin in his arms. This was ridiculous - she was a calm cool seducer of men, women, and assorted immortals.

She did not swoon.

Though she certainly wasn't going to lose this fight by quitting, so she slid her hand up to his neck, trying to part his lips gently with her tongue, almost desperate to be closer to him.

Pathetic.

Loki parted his lips for her, but thrust his own tongue forward to meet hers, somewhere in the back of his mind that this wasn't a battle that he wanted to lose either.

He did not appear to be letting go. Or leaving. Or, indeed, acting in the established way of their...relationship? Acquaintance.

But then it appeared she'd also thrown the whole idea out the window, along with her sense of right, wrong, and the context of kisses. Because kisses were the prelude to sex, the aphrodisiac, the tease.

And, despite her better judgement, it seemed she might just keep kissing Loki all day.

It all seemed too good to be true, now that they'd finally moved past this awkward not speaking about things to this awkward kissing business. In fact, Loki was quite enjoying himself. That was until he knew he had another job to do.

Pulling back an inch, he gazed down at her, still not releasing her from his grip. "I have to go."

Pestilence stared up at him, feeling just a little dazed. "Go? Go where?"

"I do have a job." Loki replied, unable to help the small grin that had started to tug at the corners of his lips. "No rest for the punisher of the wicked." He added, finally releasing her hips and stepping back to unfurl his wings.

She straightened herself and smiled slightly. "I have a job too." A grin now. "And mine's better."

"Yours walks the fine line of morality. Mine's the Lord's work." Loki returned with a spark of challenge in his eyes and quirked an eyebrow at her.

"Guess I'll see you around." He added before he launched himself up into the sky, wings beating hard to take him to the next sinner. He smiled the whole way.
