*giggles* Let me know if you read any of these! I'd want to hear your thoughts.

Oh, and you wanted to know what I thought of Tipping The Velvet: I liked it, but I liked Fingersmith more. The thing was, I didn't see enough of Kitty to get a good understanding of her... though I can understand the feeling-trapped thing, feeling like you have no choice. I kept waiting to learn more about her, and was really disappointed not to see more of her. I really identified with Nan, in her self-destructiveness and her strength, and especially in her uncrushable faith in the promise of life. I could see myself following the same path in pretty much the same way, given the same environment (except I don't think I could pass as a man, heh). I loved the ending, even though I thought it was a bit anticlimactic.

:) I certainly will let you know. I've been such a terrible reader lately. I have about 10 unfinished books laying around and I just can't seem to get to it. I wasn't always like this.

I love Tipping the Velvet, because to me, it pushed more boundaries, and I just... I don't know how to explain it. So I won't. I've pretty much invented this whole world of Kitty in my head because of the dissatisfaction of how she was ignored in the storyline.

I have so many unfinished books! It's 'cause I go to the used book store too often, and I always want to read my latest finds. ;-)

I agree, it definitely pushed more boundaries. In that aspect I liked it much better... I just liked Fingersmith better for getting more into both women's heads.

Tell me the world of Kitty?

Very much loved this post and the thought put into it. I've been reading more this year, but about half of it has been rereads.

Have you discovered the lovely goodreads.com? Someone pointed me in that direction a couple of months ago, and I LOVE being able to keep track of when I read a book last and how many books I've read in a month and such!

It's an unusual thing that I have only reread one book this year, I'm usually big on re-reading. I just wanted more new material this year I guess. ;-)

I already have librarything and that facebook iread thingy, so I better stay away. I don't need to get addicted to aNOTHER site, heh.

I personally LOVED Twilight Children but I think because the setting is more like my own work than a classroom. Not that I work in a hospital :P

Thank you for an amazing list! I really liked how you constructed it with the links and ratings, and included details like numbers of pages. I love historical novels, especially set in ancient Egypt, so it was great to find a couple of good ones on your list. The only book I have read so far was Amy Tan's "The Kitchen God's Wife". A friend of mine rec'd it to me and I was reluctant about it, thinking it was a book I might not find that appealing as a male reader (I know, call me biased!) - boy, was I wrong! I ended up reading all of Amy Tan's books, I think she's an incredible author, especially for readers interested in foreign cultures and history. :)

thanks! :D If you love Ancient Egypt historical novels, get ANYTHING by Christian Jacq, he's just amazing. I intend to collect all of his work.
