Testing out my new iPhone LJ app to remind you that today is the last day to register to vote. Voter registrations must be postmarked by today in order to vote in the general election on November 4th.

So, go do it!

It's basically just a client, from what I can tell. There's a place for messages in the app, but comments don't show up, only direct messages. I'd rate it as better than nothing, but in need of improvement.

I haven't received my absentee ballot yet. :/ However, I know the number to call. I am just lazy lol.

Really? I'm on the permanent absentee list and I got mine a couple weeks ago. I've already mailed it off. If you just requested

Are you registered at your parents' address or your new one?

My new one! There was a guy outside of walmart a few weeks ago who was registering people. I got an e-mail from the Democratic Party of CA saying that Ventura County is mailing its ballots soon, so I'm pretty sure everything went through alright. I am going to call that number now.

California is so enlightened! In VA the registration deadline was 2 weeks ago. Now the challenge is to make sure the polling places are adequately staffed and equipped for the many thousands of new Democratic voters (they were registering folks for weeks here in the "People's Republic of Arlington" as McCain's brother dubbed it).

Now the former registration folks are hawking absentee ballots. It would be convenient, but there's a certain mystique about going to my polling place, where some neighbors serve as election officials and others wait on line with me and chat. Even the Republicans.

I gave up on traditional voting when my kids were little. Schedules were hectic, and things always happened - you know how it goes. I missed one election (just a local one), but I felt so terrible about it, that I decided that I would vote absentee from then on. It just makes things a bit easier.
