Cha’s not usually this late… You thought as he looked into their tiny backyard. His friend was usually home by sundown, unless they were out together. He sighed and straightened a few things up. They were having company tonight.

You smiled as he thought about the two handsome men that were quickly becoming more than just acquaintances. One was shorter than Yukihiro and the other was nearly his own height, with eyes that seemed like they could burn right into your soul. They were a little strange, but if their lifestyle was what contributed to their attractiveness, You wouldn’t complain.

A knock at their door brought him out of his thoughts and he slid the door open.

“Good evening,” the one called Hideto greeted.

“Good evening. Please come in.” You moved to the side and motioned for the pair to come inside. The taller one, called Gakuto, was usually rather quiet but spoke up first tonight.

“Where is Yukihiro?”

“Um, well… I don’t know… He should have been back by now. He doesn’t usually forget things.”

Gakuto looked at Hideto. Hideto nodded, “Perhaps we should go look for him?”

You quickly crossed the small apartment and slid the back door closed. If he was being honest with himself, he was extremely worried about Yukihiro. He wrote out a short note, just in case Yuki returned before they did, and left it in an obvious spot. Grabbing a lantern he joined Gakuto and Hideto in the entryway. “Let’s go.”

~*~

You was struggling to keep up with the other two. Somehow, even with his shorter legs, Hideto walked faster than he did. They were on a secondary street that You and Yukihiro often took, lit just enough to not be a bother.

Gakuto suddenly sped up and up and up.

”Slow down a little!” Hideto reminded him.

”I can smell him… Too well.”

“Where’s he going?”

“Don’t worry about it.” Hideto sped up a little too, to the point where You was losing him, even at a jog.

Hideto ran nose first into what Gackt had smelled. Blood.

“-ki!” Hideto barely heard a several houses down.

“Yuki!” Gakuto dropped to his knees beside a body in the middle of the alleyway.

It was Yukihiro alright, Gakuto could see that as he turned the man over. He felt for a heartbeat, not trusting his ears at the moment. He bunched up the other man’s kimono and pressed it to the bloody spot on his torso. The scent of blood was overwhelming, especially since it belonged to someone he was fond of.

He patted Yukihiro’s face and watched his eyebrows twitch. Good… “Yuki…” He heard his heart start struggling. “Yuki!”

“Gakuto.” Hideto appeared partway down the alley. Gakuto looked up at him with shining red eyes.

“He’s… he’s dying.” Hideto inhaled to respond but was cut off. “Please…” Hideto could barely hear it. “Please help…”

Hideto knelt beside Yukihiro and quickly checked him over. Keeping a hold on the thin wrist he asked Gakuto, “Is that what you really want for him? Will you take responsibility for making that choice for him?”

“I…” Could he ‘condemn’ such a sweet man to their life? And what about You? You who had just appeared at the end of the alley, catching his breath, hand on his side after running after Hideto, coming down the alley, but not too far yet. He knew one thing for certain:

“I can’t lose him.”

Hideto knew what those words meant. These were the first people Gakuto had really cared about since him. 50 years ago… “Alright, I’ll help you.”

“Hey… Hideto?” You took a few steps closer, legs like jelly after that sprint. “Is… Is that… Ch-Cha…?”

Gakuto closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He’d have to be careful with such a fragile life. ”Forgive me.” He kissed Yukihiro’s neck before biting into it.

“Hey! What are you-” He stopped when he saw Hideto’s golden eyes looking at him. He fell onto his backside and backed up into a crate, putting a hand to his mouth so he didn’t scream.

Hideto turned back and pulled on Gakuto’s hair to get him to stop. He had to pull a second, harder, time before Gakuto pulled back.

Licking his lips clean Gakuto thought ’He tastes like tea…’ He looked up to the sky, slightly lost in Yukihiro’s blood. It was delicious.

Hideto sighed and brought his wrist to his mouth. He bit it open, seeing how Gakuto was tripping, and lowered it to Yukihiro’s mouth. After a few seconds the unconscious man’s eyebrows twitched and his tongue darted up to lap at the wound. He slowly brought a hand up and lightly held Hideto’s arm while he drank.

You squeaked, having no idea what was going on. Gakuto looked at him, eyes still red, with an unreadable look on his face. You felt like crying because he just couldn’t comprehend what was going on. Was that his Chacha? What were their new friends doing?

Hideto forcibly pulled his wrist away when he started to feel light-headed. Gakuto’s mind had cleared and he looked down at Yukihiro licking his lips.

“Yuki?” Gakuto reacted out and stroked his friend's cheek. The red eyes of a new vampire greeted him.

“Gakuto?” Yukihiro tried to sit up but was held down by Hideto’s hand on this shoulder. “What… Why does it hurt…?” He moved his hand to where he had been stabbed and encountered Gakuto’s hand.

"It's going to hurt more soon, unfortunately. Yuki, I need you to be as quiet as you can be, alright?”

Yukihiro nodded and looked at the sky. There seemed to be so many more stars out tonight. He winced as the change truly took hold.

“Gakuto, take him to the river. You know what to do.” Gakuto nodded and stood with Yukihiro. While he didn't remember his own transformation, he'd been present for two that Hideto had done in the time they'd been traveling together.

“Hold onto me, Yuki.” Arms tightened and Gakuto took off at vampire speed to the river.

Hideto turned to You, who was still cowering by the crate he’d backed into. He flinched and curled into a crying ball when Hideto stood and started towards him.

“I'm not going to hurt you, You.” Hideto tried to sound comforting, but even he had to admit that his voice was a little unsetting when his vampire eyes were out. He closed his eyes and shook away his vampire features. He didn't usually have to deal with witnesses. He sighed as he squatted in front of You.

“You, look at me.” You tightened and got out a spitty ‘no’ and shook his head furiously. Hideto could hear his heart racing, breath hitching, and could tell You was in panic mode.

“You, I mean it. Look at me.” Hideto snaked his hand under You’s chin and turned his face up. When You got the courage to open his eyes, all he could see were Hideto's golden ones. He tried to look away, but the grip on his chin was too strong. Tears poured down his cheeks, not knowing what Hideto was going to do to him.

“P-Please... I…” was all You could get out.

“You, really look at me. Good. Calm down. I’m not going to hurt you. You mean a lot to Gakuto. And me…” You felt a little fuzzy in the head as he looked into Hideto’s golden orbs, seeming to swirl like a fire. He could feel his body trying to calm down, without his instruction. It looked like Hideto was speaking, but You couldn't make it out. When he realized Hideto was doing something to him, he tried to panic, but his body wouldn’t listen to him. He gave up and started to feel like he was being wrapped up in a nice warm blanket. His gasps turned to slow pants and he realized how much his chest hurt. As his heartbeat slowed, the tears slowly stopped coming. It seemed like Hideto’s eyes were fading from blazing gold to standard Japanese brown. His head felt like it was beginning to tip back.

“When you wake, you will not panic about tonight. You might get scared, but panic will not happen." Hideto let You's eyes slip shut and his head rest against the crate behind him for a few seconds. “Now, wake up.”

You brought his head back up and flinched because Hideto was so close. He tried to back up further into the crates, but that was obviously not happening. A tear slipped out.

“Are… Are you a d-demon…?” He finally got out.

Hideto smiled, “I don't think so.”

“W-what are you...?”

“Well… The sun hurts us and we generally only eat blood. I don't think that makes us demons, but there's not really a good name for us yet.”

“Why did Gakuto take Cha away? What… what did you do to him? Did- Did you make him like you?” You's brows came together in worry, afraid that he'd lose his Chacha.

“It was to save his life, You. He’d been stabbed, and probably robbed.”

“Did you ask him before you did it? Maybe be didn't want this!” You squeezed out tears of sorrow now.

Hideto's finger was on You's lips, urging him to stay quiet. “We’ll have to see how he feels a little later. He wasn't conscious when we did it.” Knowing it was Gakuto’s decision, he said, “If you want to be mad, be mad at me.”

“I just want to see him…”

“I can take you to where Gakuto took him, but he might not be up for seeing you so soon. We'll walk, at your speed, to give them some more time, okay?" He stood & offered his hand to You.

~~~~~~~
Yukihiro sat naked under the bridge while Gakuto tried to minimize the bloodstain on his kimono. Gakuto had explained what happened but Yukihiro still felt strange. He was tired, but felt better than he had in a while.
He heard Gakuto sigh.
“I think that's all I can get out...” Gakuto stood and shook out the kimono. He flopped it over one of the bridge supports and approached Yukihiro. “Before you put that on, you should have a little to eat…”
Gakuto pulled a small knife out of somewhere and held it to his wrist. Yukihiro watched with avid curiosity as Gakuto slid it across his skin. Every sense flared as blood breached the skin and started little rivulets. “Don't drink too much. It’ll help keep the hunger at bay until your fangs grow in. Probably by tomorrow night.”
Yukihiro was transfixed by Gakuto's bloodied wrist, just about to start drooling.
“Don't make me have to cut it again…”
Yukihiro launched himself at Gakuto's wrist, latching on like some sort of sticky sea animal. Gakuto had to forcibly remove him to keep him from chewing a new hole after his flesh had closed up. That would have been very unpleasant.
Yukihiro licked at his lips and chin and mumbled ‘Sorry…’ after being pushed back to his sitting spot.
"Get dressed…” Gakuto rubbed his wrist and put his knife away. That much fixation with blood was a little concerning to him.
Gakuto heard one of their secret noises and felt Hideto’s presence. Hideto was old enough to have developed some pretty good mental skills and Gakuto felt him ask if it was okay to join them.
“In a few minutes... And I need to talk to you later.”
